TA on a small ship

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

DH and I have love cruising and have just completed our first TA. We have always sailed on the standard lines (NCL, HAL, Princess, RCI, Disney) and are now considering Seabourn.

Our TA on RCI was a bit rocky. Other passengers felt it was ok and warned against going TA on a small ship.

We really want to start sailing on the smaller lines. Any advice or info will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Allison

I have done both small and larger Seabourn ships on northern routes and have been tossed about the same amount. I think it can be somewhat dependent on the route, but I didn't think one size was any better than the other. And I have said it here before, I tossed about more on the QM2 than any other ship, during a nor'easter going north to NYC. Best to book low and inside, as it were.

While luck of the draw and having good weather can color ones views, the size of a ship can greatly impact ones experience. In seas are 20' or more, which ship would you rather be on:

a little sister at 439' and 10,000 tons or

big sister at 650" and 32,000 tons.

While both can certainly handle the weather, the larger ship will offer less "rock & roll". If you are not a "seasoned" sailor, I might look long and hard at the larger SB ships.
