Where to stay in Quebec City?

We will be staying a few nights post cruise in October 2012. What area/hotel would be a good place to stay for a reasonable price? :)

For sure stay inside the walls. Most people recommend the smaller boutique hotels. Do a search here and on Trip Advisor and you will find many previous posts.

We weren't cruising; but, spent four nights on Ile d' Orleans, which is a few miles outside the city. Dozens of great B&Bs and inns, plus great food and meeting the wonderful local people. Have a rental car to see the sights in the old city and nearby. The Morency falls are just next to the bridge to the island.
