BCNlady Posted December 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2011 *New Year's Day Sailing Regatta* Can someone give me some info about this race and Montagu bay? Is it a good choice for a short cruise stop on New year? Is it doable by public transport?
scubagirrl Posted December 15, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2011 *New Year's Day Sailing Regatta* Can someone give me some info about this race and Montagu bay? Is it a good choice for a short cruise stop on New year? Is it doable by public transport? This is a great way to immerse yourself in the real culture of the bahamas. Race day is a day of cooking, drinking, music, dominos, gambling and general carrying on. The race itself is somewhat exciting if you know the cast of characters.. it's also a bit disorganized, and can be drawn out due to... we'll just about anything. It's a "carnival" atmosphere, so if your not afraid of rubbing elbows with the locals.. go for it There's a jitney that run's up that way, but you'll have to walk to Shirley Street (next block going west) to get a returned jitney These things are very crowded with pumping music and lots of drinking. It's not like the regatta's we have in the states.. With this being said.. I love regatta season.
BCNlady Posted December 15, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted December 15, 2011 This is something for us!! I always trie to "rub elbows wit locals" when travelling, we are used to travel independently. I've been searching for months about Nassau... Thank you Scubbagirl I've only found a tel number for information. Could you fins something online? On the other hand Nassau downtown will be better than I thought as Junkanoo will be on Jan 2 this year, I was afraid about streets dirtyness after the long night parade. scubagirrl Posted December 17, 2011 #7 Share Posted December 17, 2011 You might want to give them a call and see if they are still having this Regatta. I don't hear or see much about it this season. (and I'm currently on Holiday and not on the island at this time0. Since my S/O passes away, I'm not up on all things regatta, as this was his thing. If you have a number.. give them a call.
