Getting Panicky!! Advice Please

Ron & Kristy

Recommended Posts

Hi, we sail one week from tomorrow on the Wind. We don't have any paperwork, no tickets for the cruise, no tickets for our air...nothing. I will call our agent tomorrow but in the meantime can anyone offer anything that will quiet my fears. This is our first cruise. Thanks all.

Kristy

Hi
As long as you have your citizenship documentation in hand the rest of the documents can wait. Air tickets are probably etickets so you only need a confirmation number to board. Cruise doc's you can pick up and fill out at the pier.
Can you go to ncl.com and do the pre-cruise documentation?

Hawaii is a wonderful destination. Have a great cruise on the Wind.

Hi Chris,

I have already pre-registered. Our air and cruise were booked together so I'm not sure about the eticket thing. We have passports so that isn't a problem. I just can't believe we haven't gotten any travel documents yet. I'm a little irked at the travel agent. They definitely are not on top of things. Live and learn I guess, it's the first time I've used them, probably the last too.

I thought I have read on here that sometimes and especially the ones with air and the cruise, you don't get your stuff until a week before. I may be wrong about that, but I thought I had read that. I think it takes longer to get the air documents matched up with the cruise documents or something.

I'd be climbing the walls though! Good luck! And I hope you have a wonderful time here in Hawaii,

Emi

I do not want to sound an alarm. I suggest you contact NCL directly and ask them if the documents have been sent. Unfortunately our family had a Christmas cruise planned last year on Celebrity through the Panama Canal, and although we had paid the agency for our rooms, A Royal and Sky Suites, the agency had failed and never paid the cruise line. And if you want to talk about a BAD customer service experience, well, one cannot imagine and we are still out 40K. Pursue the issue with vigor. You should have docs in your hand NOW!

Am I correct, frequent cruisers? I don't think we have a week. This has to be sorted out 72 hours prior to sailing since 9/11. Kristy; put this post on the Celebrity and RCL boards for more advice.

I probably need to clarify this. We booked several months ago. We have a booking number, we have been charged on our credit card by NCL, and in fact my husband called NCL and booked the anniversary package and there was no problem doing that. I just don't have any documents yet and we leave home Friday.

Thanks everyone for your responses and information. It is greatly appreciated. This is our first cruise and I really need this vacation so was hoping to avoid so much extra stress.

RON & KRISTY, I can certainly understand your concern. I would suggest verifying everything with NCL, as much as they will reveil. They usually will confirm that you are booked and can usually tell you when your documents were sent to your TA. I have received documents several times right before sailing, including once the day before the cruise because they were accidentally mailed to my old address. I know it's stressful, and not as much fun, but you can still pick up documents at the pier worst case. Our TA faxed me a confirmation page as proof just to be sure. I will be waiting for your return as we are sailing on the Wind to Hawaii on June 9. I want to hear all about your trip! Have you decided what you are going to be doing on the islands yet? I'd love to hear what you thought were the highlights of your trip. Have a wonderful cruise

Hi Alexus. We called NCL yesterday. They wouldn't tell us anything. They said that we had to go through our TA. We called our TA first thing this morning and they called NCL. They were told that there is no one there that can tell them anything about our documents on the weekend and to call back on Monday. We are leaving on Friday so there isn't much time. I'm finding this a not-so-pleasant experience. Work has been very stressful lately and now they are making the pre-trip planning stressful too.

I will be happy to let you know how everything went and what we thought of the ship when we return. As far as excursions go, we're planning on a helicopter trip when we get to Hilo and we're going to do the body glove snorkel trip when we get to Kona. I'm not sure we'll do anything specific on Maui and we're going to rent a car and go off on our own on Kauai. The excursions are rediculously expensive in my opinion. I booked our helicopter excursion on my own and saved $100 over what the ship charges, same company that the ship uses. Anyway thanks for responding to my plight. Take care.

Kristy

Kristy: Did you book the Body Glove also on your own? And did you have an Entertainment Book? Because I'm pretty sure I saw a coupon for the Body Glove in there.

Kristy,oh that is frustrating. They could have atleast let you know if your documents were sent. It wasn't like you were asking them to make any changes or anything. When that happened to us, Princess told us exactly when and where our documents were sent. Oh well, not to worry, your going on a cruise in 7 days even if your documents don't arrive at your house. We are also renting cars in most of the ports because the shore excursions are expensive and we have 6 people in our party (3 kids and Grandma). I'm so impressed that your first cruise is to Hawaii!

Good luck Kristy, I hope those documents get to you soon. We will be boarding the Wind as you are disembarking. We received our documents about 1-1/2 weeks ago, but we didn't book our air through NCL. I hope the trip is worth all of the frustration waiting for your documents. Enjoy your vacation.

Here's the latest. The owner of the travel agency called today. Again she was told that the documents dept was closed for the weekend but this time someone did at least tell her that yes we are confirmed and no our documents have NOT gone out yet. Why are they doing this to me!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!! She will call first thing in the morning and then update us. Nothing like a little added stress to start the work week with! G'night all.

Just saw your message Emi. No I haven't booked the Body Glove yet. Unfortunately I have to book through the ship or we will miss the morning sailing. It leaves at 9:00 as stated in the excursions brochure. I'm afraid that if I book it on my own that we won't get off the ship in time to make the excursion. I was told that if you haven't booked through the ship you don't get first priority in getting off of the ship. If this isn't correct maybe someone could enlighten me.

Kristy...yes that is true but I think if you tell them you have an early excursion they try to get you off quickly too. Someone just posted a review or post or something that they were off the ship by 7:15 and got a cab and made it to Fairwinds with plenty of time to spare and it would be easier with the Body Glove because it leaves from right there at the pier. I would contact Body Glove directly and see what they have to say. Don't know what time the Wind is due in to port...

Hi all. Here is the latest update on the ticket situation. We now have email flight confimations. Apparently NCL screwed up and forgot to send our our cruise tickets. They are supposed to be overnighting them today. Hopefully this is the end of the problems and there will be clear sailing from here on out. Well darn it anyway!! I guess I was just a little too optimistic. The tickets didn't come today. Now NCL says that their computers were down yesterday and they couldn't send them out. Now supposedly they should be here tomorrow. It's going to be a photo finish folks. :-(

I think NCL should offer us a shipboard credit or something for all of the hassles. They are NOT making a good impression on these 2 first time cruisers.

Our tickets haven't arrived either and we leave 5/15 on the Spirit. It appears they did send docs but for our cancelled 5/2 Star cruise, go figure. While we have a little more time than you do Kristy, I do understand your frustration. It is upsetting not to have the tickets in hand.

Good luck for tomorrow I will keep my fingers crossed.
