Adult Only Century Cruise

Hi-

We are seriously considering the June 5 adult only cruise on the Century. We have had much cruising experience (mostly Seabourn, but also HAL, Cunard, Silversea, one other Celebrity, one Royal Caribbean and a couple of Princess--obviously we LOVE cruising!)--and every year we (my partner Peter and I) take my mother and sister on a cruise. The idea on no children is very appealing (sorry if I offend anyone, but it's just a vacation preference). I am wondering what the atmosphere would be like? I am thinking it would perhaps be Club Med-ish? which is a bit inapporopriate for my 85 year old mom. On the othert hand, it might be lots of pleasant, calm, older people who, like us, play bridge and enjoy ourselves quietly and calmly.

Any thoughts? We have to decide by April 30. The cabins we are holding --very few choices left--are in the Concierge category, but are just regular, non-balcony cabins. All input would be very welcome!!! I must say that, at least on these boards, people seem to LOVE the Century!

I really don't think you could ever go wrong with Century. It has a great staff and crew!

I was on Zenith with only 11 kids under 17yrs. old last Nov. so it was almost "no kids". It did not turn into a party ship or club med.

That's just my opinion--but I say go for it!! icon_biggrin.gif

Club Med is laid back and casual. Celebrity in general is more formal than other cruise lines. I think you will find a slightly older crowd that really likes to dress up on formal nights. I would think that a Celebrity cruise would be the opposite of Club Med.

Donuts, is there anything they can't do....

I sailed on the adult only cruise last year, the same week you are going. It's basically just like any other cruise, with the absence of children of course. There was a wide variety of people: 20's - 90's, gay and straight, all ethnic groups, couples and singles. I sailed with my parents who are in their 60's and we were all fine.

I did notice, however, after being on the cruise a day or two, that there were one or two "internet/singles groups" sailing. They were a bit, um, "wild" in the disco and the casino late at night. I doubt it would interfere with your mother's enjoyment, since she probably won't be in those areas late at night.

Enjoy!

Stephen, my understanding is that while "European sytle sunbathing" is allowed (okay, topless) on the Escapes sailings, other than that it's not wild partying. Just adult entertainment and options appropriate without children to take into consideration.

I hope you join us!

The entertainment is geared to an all adult audience on the AO cruise. It's not like a cruise where just a few children just happen to be in attendance.

Stephen, you and Peter and your Mom will love the AO atmosphere.

When I get in the pool, I love not having kids splash me---just one of the perks of an AO cruise.
