markRichmond Posted April 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2005 I would love to do some trout fishing without flying to a camp or staying overnight. Does anyone have some suggestions on good fly fishing oportunities that I could get to from some of the ports? I would prefer fishing streams. A guide would be ok but I would also consider renting a car and doing it on my own. Also, from what I have read it seems like late august would be a good time to go. True? Thanks, Mark
wolfie11 Posted April 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2005 What areas do you want to fish? There are trout and greyling stocked in many interior streams and lakes. There is some trout fishing in the Anchorage Bowl area. I know a couple of spots in SE Alaska for great cutthroat and steelhead fishing, but they are not easily accessible. The best source of information is the Alaska Department of fish and game at http://www.sf.adfg.state.ak.us/statewide/SF_home.cfm.

chewap Posted June 1, 2006 #4 Share Posted June 1, 2006 I was hoping to do some fly fishing in Sitka. I know there are several streams and rivers within walking distance. The rivers are full of salmon, therefore there should be cutthroat trout. A good site to start is http://www.sf.adfg.state.ak.us/Region1/SF_R1home.cfm Good luck and be aware of the bears eating the salmon.
