Rare uneamie Posted May 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Songster..... My hubby and I were on the Atlantic in May of 1988....went to Bermuda. I think it was her last cruise under the Home Lines Company, then someone bought her down in Florida I believe. I don't know if it's even sailing anymore. It was our first cruise. Those were the days when a "Grand Buffet" was Grand. I remember they had it out on the pool deck and there was food everywhere out there. There was nothing they did not have on those tables. They don't do it up like that anymore on the new ships...at least not any we've been on.
 Countdown - Dawn 11 day cruise ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Home Lines - 5/1988 Disney Wonder - 10/1998 Carnival Triumph - 7/2002 Carnival Legend - 10/2003 NCL - Dawn - 1/2005
songster67 Posted May 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Uneamie: Yeah, they sure don't. I literally grew up on Home Lines (mostly as you can see...the Oceanic). First time I was 18 months old, last Home Lines sailing was just after my 21st bday. The Atlantic though was a giant tub. Certainly not as well made as their others. My Atlantic cruise was delayed for hours as Holland America was in the process of finalizing the purchase of Home Liens and the crew refused to sail, at first, because they all thought they would soon be unemployed...they were right. I believe H/A sold Oceanic and Atlantic to Premier and the Homeric was stretched and became the Westerdam. I do miss some of the traditions that were ingrained in me growing up cruising, but all in all some great experiences, and I will always cherish my 1/99 cruise on RCI's Song of America. It left LA on Super Bowl Sunday and I while watching the game, met the woman I married. Fate works in weird ways...had the Jets beaten the Broncos in the AFC Championship the week before I never would've met her. My apologies to the real topic of this thread...now back to biz 12/68 Oceanic 3/76 Oceanic 3/78 Oceanic 1/79 Oceanic 4/79 Oceanic 2/80 Oceanic 2/81 Oceanic 3/83 Oceanic 3/84 Oceanic 6/85 Fair Sky 3/86 Holiday 3/87 Homeric 4/88 Atlantic 3/90 Westerdam 2/91 Rotterdam 8/92 Song of Norway 11/93 Sun Viking 5/94 Starward 3/96 Legend of the Seas 5/97 Horizon 6/98 Century 1/99 Song of America 7/01 Norwegian Sea 3/03 Norwegian Dawn 6/04 Norwegian Dawn
stgrand Posted May 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2004 When we sailed in November of last year, we had cabin 11801 i think. The cabin did creek but we found that if we left the slider open a little the noise of the waves made for the best night sleep i have had in years. And i had to sleep on the pull out couch , and being 6'2" tall that was a little tight 1985-NCL Skyward 1987-NCL Starward 1992-NCL Seaward 1994-NCL Starward 2002- Carnival Victory 2003-NCL Dawn 2004-NCL Majesty
