Rowan555 Posted January 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2012 On our 1/1 Magic cruise, the server took our dessert order at the beginning, when he took the rest of our order. This is the first time in 23 Carnival cruises that the server hasn't waited until we were done with our entrees to take our dessert order. Is this something new fleetwide, or specific to the Magic? I never know if I will want dessert until after I've eaten, so we just skipped dessert each night.
Alliezona09 Posted January 11, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Was on the Spirt Dec 2-17 and the only time they did that was at lunchtime~ every night in the MDR and the Steakhouse they took it after dinner~
spacepotatoes Posted January 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2012 We were on the Imagination last week and didn't order dessert until we were done with the main meal for both of our MDR dinners. We had lunch in the MDR once but I can't remember when we ordered dessert for that. It might all have been on one menu.
jtwitch Posted January 11, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Did you ask if you could decide at the end of your main course? If so, what was the response?
peptobysmol Posted January 11, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 11, 2012 If it speeds it up some I'm all for taking it with the main selections.
livestocruisetoo Posted January 11, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Magic has a substantially larger number of passengers to serve and they are most likely trying to cut down wait time between courses.
ScottsSweetie Posted January 11, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Seems like I remember other cruisers commenting on experiencing this recently. When DH and I cruised NCL in 2010 we were asked to order dessert when we placed our dinner order. But, the desserts were listed on the same menu. Did they give you both menus at the same time, or are the menus all combined now??

I'm not sure if they also had a separate dessert menu for guests to look at, as we were not given one. I'm not making a big deal of this, I'm just curious if it's done this way on the Magic because of the number of passengers, or if it's something Carnival is doing fleetwide. We'll be on the Elation in 1 month, so we'll see what happens then!

I never know if I will want dessert until after I've eaten, so we just skipped dessert each night. They took the whole order last May on the Magic and the Dream before that. I usually always know what I want anyway. For those who wanted to wait it was no problem. They just said that they will decide later and the waiter brought the dessert menu after the entree was done. tiggerman101 Posted January 13, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 13, 2012 I had forgotten that. They did it on our Magic Med cruise in June also. However, I have been on the Miracle and Conquest since then and it was back to normal. They took the order after the main course.

Said to the waiter that you wanted to wait until after the meal to order... but seriously..if you skipped dessert each night..it was because you felt you wanted to...not because of the waiter's ordering techniques.
