smilz Posted January 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2012 I have not stayed there but we have eaten in the Outback Steakhouse there several times. The open indoor courtyard is very nice and the pool area is quite nice. It is NOT on the beach. It is about a seven block walk. There is a big grocery store very close by that sells wine. The streets are a little creepy to walk at night but there are Casinos in the Intercontinental and the El San Juan about 4 blocks away. There is a Burger King and some other fast food joints on the main street several blocks away. I have heard that there is a bus to OSJ but have never seen it. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with ES. The breakfast is usually great and the cocktail party at their other properties has been good. Our budget is a little tighter this year and if we don't get a better deal on the water , we may stay there as well. Happy sailing!!:)
calenita Posted January 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2012 We stayed at the Embassy Suites last week. It is a block away from the beach. They provide beach loungers, towels and umbrellas on the beach free of charge. You just give your name and room number. It is so close to the beach I don't think it would be worth it to pay a lot extra to be right on the beach. I think it was the San Juan Resort I saw right by where we were on the beach. The pool is nice at the hotel. Big hot tub. Breakfast was good with a lot of stuff at the hot buffet including omletes with JALAPENOS which I tried and they were hot - but good! By the time you get the free hot breakfast and the manager's reception in the afternoon with the free drinks, chips, salsa and pretzels it makes it a good deal. The beach has nice waves for jumping in, food vendors and a bathroom. I did not like the bed at all. Too soft. You walk one block down to the "main drag" where there are a lot of fast food restaurants, Chili's, Puerto Rican restaurants and Walgreens. We walked this in the day and at night and it felt very safe. Was well lit. Saw police driving around several times so they are on alert too.
