Aosborn Posted January 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2012 I will be traveling to New York in September to cruise on the Carnival Glory. I'll be traveling with my wife, mother in law and kids ages 3 years and 18 months. We are arriving two days before departure and would like to see some of the attractions in Manhattan. Has anyone done this with kids, car seats, strollers etc? Can anyone suggest where we should stay to make getting around with the kids easier on us? Also any recommendations on private tour companies that will pick up and drop off at hotel?
lglancy Posted January 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2012 We stayed last July at the Herald Square Hotel. It was a great location to walk to many major sites, and one block from a CVS and the ever important Mcdonald's. Our daughter is 5, so we did not have a stroller, but this location was great for seeing things in small doses and being able to go back to the hotel to rest. It was reasonably priced, comparatively speaking, as Manhattan hotels are crazy expensive, and is easily the cleanest hotel we've ever stayed in. The rooms are small, of course, and there was only one bed, so you may need to arrange a portacrib or plan a "campout" on the floor like we did. We really enjoyed our time in the city. Also, be sure to walk to Madison Square Park for a great playground and water playground, plus lots of room for the kids to run, and check out the park behind the NY Public Library, which has a carousel. Our daughter loved these spots, and we got some great pictures here.
lmg1230 Posted January 12, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2012 Not sure whether or not the location would suit you, however, the last time that we visited New York our family stayed at Hotel Beacon on the Upper West Side. They have apartments available and we were able to book a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and living room for less than what we had paid on previous visits for a crowded hotel room in midtown. jeffreypositano Posted May 18, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 18, 2012 We are traveling in June with our 5yr old and have reservations at the Sheraton in Weehawken NJ. It is right on the Hudson River. Rates were SUBSTANTIALLY lower than others taht we researched.
