Jewelfine Posted January 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2012 Hi there I have a family who doesn't like small boats (get seasick), I would love to do stingray city. How long is the ride to stingray city? and is it in open water or in a bay so it isn't too rough? Thanx Melanie

TurtleTagger Posted January 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Boat ride is about 20-25 minutes. Sting Ray City is located in a reef protected sound, so it is not in open water and is usually calm. It can get choppy with bad weather or when fronts move in (usually in the winter months). If it is determined to be unsafe, the marine authorities will close the sound to tourist boat traffic and tours will be cancelled. There are many tour operators who go to SRC and the size of their boats vary. I personally find the larger catamarans to be the most stable. nlt46 Posted January 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2012 The cruise lines use larger boats than say Captain Marvin. If you feel better on larger boats... then book with them perhaps. The times we've been there, the water was calm. Nancy

oscarbuzz Posted February 11, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 11, 2012 Stingray sailing . com is by far the best. We went a few years ago and it was like sailing with a neighbor or friend. Very cool, very knowledgeable, and incredibally brilliant ray feeding. They even dropped my wife and i off for Roti after the sail. Amazing group! mamasam60 Posted February 11, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 11, 2012 We did this in January with StingraySailing.com, and can't say enough nice about them. It was a good-size catamaran and very calm. About a 25 minute ride out, and we sailed back. It was very smooth both ways. Cheaper and less crowded than ship excursions (we only had 12 the day we went), I highly recommend them.
