baldercash Posted January 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2012 This is about as bad as it gets, interested how they were able to hit something with all that technology on board? Hope the deaths are minimal. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-01-14/thousands-evacuated-after-cruise-ship-runs-aground/3772742 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2086527/Costa-Concordia-accident-Pictures-cruise-ship-sinking-coast-Italy-Titanic-like-scene.html
Hawaiidan Posted January 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2012 Its if anything an argument for the smaller ships. The 2500 to 8000 mega ships are clearly harder to manage their human cargo. In emergency mamagement there is this thing called span of control 1:5 max That is in an emergency situation/stress 1 person can only effectively deal with 5 persons safely. The Costa ship was clearly pushing the limits of its crew. This will cause thought by insurance as to mega ships. I disagree thats it is as bad as it gets... less than 0.3 killed or injured? That means 99.7% were ok. I think thats pretty darn good !!! Where Titanic was 50%+ and How about the USS Indanapolis ship went down in 5 min, crew of almost 1200...about 200 survived.... Or USS Hoel,
