Need fins when snorkeling at Champagne?

We have done a lot of snorkeling where we do not need our fins. Have read that the water at Champagne can be a little choppy and some people have been tossed around a bit trying to get into the water, but fine once in the water. We were wondering how far out it is to see the different things at Champagne such as the bubbly water, sea horses, etc...Is the current strong and do we need fins? We also thought that since the fins take up a lot of room in suitcase and it might be easier to get into water at Champagne w/all the large rocks, etc... maybe we should just use our water shoes (Keens)? Any thoughts? Thank you.
