A new Seabourn "event?"

I read on Helen Haynes blog of this event aboard the Quest World Cruise ~

"Open mike joke night in the Observation Bar, at 11:00 pm

Advertised, if you are easily offended please avoid the lounge for

45 minutes as we can not edit what happens here tonight."

Helen reported, her husband, Vance, told a couple of jokes.....she went to write, "I laughed and laughed......was risque' "

The CD is John Baron ~I'm guessing he hosted this evening event. ~~~ and must have been in the daily Herald.

I've not heard of Seabourn's " open mike joke night." Has anyone attended this event on any of the ships?

No haven't heard of this event either - it certainly would liven the Observation Lounge up a bit at this time - we found it a bit quiet, and empty so much so we felt very sorry for the lovely pianist/singer, and stayed a bit longer than we intended too! But I think it's a great idea as a post-La Grand Salon professional entertainment! And I'm sure there's plenty of jokers in the pack ... LOL! :D

I would so enjoy seeing a "Crew Show" ~~I know Regent's 'Crew Show is their most popular evening event. I've suggested having these on the 'lit Sisters ~ I'm still keeping my fingers Xed.

Miss Martita B: Bailey's Irish Cream - the DH likes it poured - liberally - over some good Vanilla Ice-cream - Daniel in Seabourn Square was more than happy to oblige!

 

JaneBP - I didn't notice any Karaoke on the Quest other than those singing along to their ipods (with their headphones in) and forgetting others could hear! I remember sitting next to one lady out on deck who hummed along to hers! Never did work out any tune she was humming too either! That's a bit like karaoke isn't it? LOL!

My recipe for Bailey's Irish Cream (homemade)

1 cup light cream

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 2/3 Irish Whiskey

1 teasp. instant coffee

2 Tbs. chocolate syrup

1 teasp. vanilla

Blend in your blender for 30 seconds.

Place in sealed bottle ~refrigerate

Will keep for 2 months

I demo-ed my homemade 'Bailey's on a 'lit SisterTA Crossing

one year ~the Ex Chef came and hammed it up ~ 'course he was a scream ~he finally left after drinking half the blender!:confused:

By the way.....my maiden name is Bailey! I'm one of the poor relates!

There is an iPhone app where it is just like Karaoke. You can start to play a song and then the words crop up. It's the truth, I saw it on TV!! <g>

4 1/2 years ago we had a Karaoke night on the Spirit in the Mediterranean, outside at the Sky Bar. It was great fun! I think it was organized by Simon=Svetlana who was CD ( or assistant CD) then.

But that was the only Karaoke we ever had on Seabourn.

 

We had the crew karaoke finale once on the Odyssey when the passengers voted for the best act amongst the two contestants.

Great fun two.

 

I wouldn't mind if Seabourn would do it more often, as an addition to the regular shows

I agree. With the ship's census so manageable, it becomes a personal and fun event. I would love to share the Crew talent show. In addition , I would be glad to help serve in the Crew Mess on Christmas. Not like at sea we have to schelp to Grannies for the afternoon. So many of us become friends.

Has anyone ever set up a Seabourn chorus? Not necessarily for performances, but just a daily get-together of people who like to sing. I can't think of a more relaxing way to spend an hour (unless i'm getting a massage).

I think a Seabourn Sing Along could be quite fun, held in the Club and with pitchers of BBC's and Miss M's Bailey's Irish Creams on hand. Especially around the holidays, of course, it might have a bigger draw. But with all the on-board talent, it coulld be a big success! Certainly worth a suggestion and a try.

Yorkiebargirl-- You're right! It could sound and look like that! :D But I'll bet that there are at least a dozen people on board who have experience singing in parts (soprano, alto, bass), which could lead to a pretty wonderful sounding chorus. I guess we'd just need to find a private place to work our wonder. :)

Since no one forces you to attend anything on Seabourn, I don't see that one late night karaoke session could be problematic. I think some might enjoy it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

There was a 'Coridor Party' announced on the Legend - meet your neighbours and have a cocktail. Actually I was in the shower and DW was half-dressed and applying make-up - so a non-event for us. What a GHASTLY idea... like something out of Butlin's. Whatever next - communal washing-lines in the sky bar?!

We had this on the Regent Voyager and I rather enjoyed it. I had suggested this for the larger sisters, because the corridors were long and it seemed there might be less opportunities to meet people. One never knows who you might meet, or meet again? I have spent whole cruises never even seeing my adjacent suite-mates. Again, one does not have to attend any of the activities.

I've also experienced this on Regent and thought it was great fun. They call it a block party. The captain and CD came through each floor with a greeting for everyone. There were canapes and cocktails in the halls and one of the staff was stationed with each group of cabins. We had a lovely member of the entertainment staff. And the cabin attendants were there too. We met our next door neighbors and the rest of the people on the hall. It might not be as useful on the smaller ships where you can meet most people (as Seabourntraveller would say whether you wanted to or not) but I think it might be useful for the larger ships.

 

And of course, you certainly don't have to go if you don't want to.

Very true, Jane .... different strokes and all that. Perhaps it was the timing of the announcement ( not long before dinner, clearly not good for us ) and lack of prior warning - there was no mention of it in the Herald that morning , nor the day before. Perhaps we are just not very good at this sort of organised socialising. Also it was a few days into the cruise and the de rigour bonhomie of "Hi how are you, are you having a swell time? we are!" of the first few days was wearing a bit thin. Perhaps we were both in the mood for a good moan rather than yet more small talk.

Actaully our neighbours across the hall were great fun, two gay couples, one male, one female, while next door was a retired timber merchant from Australia, who looked like Rolf Harris, and his wife, who fortunately didn't. I think the small boats are intimate enough and it is hard not to meet your neighbours. perhaps a better option on the big girls.

I agree if there was no notice. That's odd, and I can well understand not showing up. And, yes, my recommendation was for the larger ships. Perhaps I spend too much time in my suite, not leaving it for days, is the reason I thought it would be nice. On Regent they also have a stewardess passing some hors d'oeuvres as well. And the Captain, HM, and CD came round.

I think there were canapes too. As I said, it was announced, out of the blue, as we were getting ready for dinner. Of course we then felt 'trapped' in our suite by the time we were ready to go out, thinking "If we appear now, dressed and ready to go for dinner, while everyone else is on their second cocktail, they will all think we are anti-social." So I timidly opened the suite door a crack and peeped out, but it was mercifully all over.

I think this is a great idea as I never met or in fact even saw our "neighbours" until well into the cruise. It was only when I spoke to a very charming man at the breakfast buffet when the DH remarked "you know who he is?" - "No" says me - he's our neighbour! So goes to show he probably didn't know we were his neighbour either.

 

We do like to have our own time of course when we're on holiday but it is nice to be sociable and an event like this, short and sweet, means you can have a chat, drink and leave! But as Flamin_ June says a bit of warning would be nice as pre-dinner I'm always at the last minute getting ready regardless of the time I need to be ready! LOL!
