authentic (handmade) items

I am guessing that most items at the straw market aren't made in the Bahamas, so my question is:

Where is the best place to shop for 'real' handmade items?

We're not looking to purchase anything too expensive and no jewelry, but mementoes, straw handbags, wood carvings, etc.

Check Festival Place for more authentic straw purses and bags.

Straw market has a wood carver.

On weekends, bay street has local "artisans" who set up tables on the sidewalk. Lots of locals bags, jewelry, tile, photographs and other things "bahamian".

We'll be in Nassau on Easter Sunday this year . . . but I have no idea if it is observed on the island. Would these artisans be selling their wares or might they be closed that day?

I saw some people weaving baskets in the straw market on Thursday. Most of the stalls offered free personalization of whichever straw item you purchased, but I didn't take them up on it.

There were lots of smaller items suitable for kids that had Hello Kitty, Elmo, Dora on them. You know they didn't pay any licensing fees to the copyright owners.
