World Gallery Posted January 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2012 We are having a hard time figuring out what to do in Helsinki. What we wanted to do, visit the Lapland Ice Bar Hotel, will be closed because that weekend is their National holiday of Juhannuspäivä (June 24th). Also, it is a Sunday. Does anyone know what will be open or what is usually open all of the time in Helsinki, even on holidays and Sundays? We area a family with kids ages 11-
JezzaC Posted January 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Shops are usually open on Sundays also. However on national holiday days most of the shops are closed. And since it is midsummer when you are arriving, most of the places are closed during that weekend. Helsinki can also be quite empty during that weekend since people will go to festivals and cottages etc.
World Gallery Posted January 19, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted January 19, 2012 I am wondering how some of the ship's tour will even operate then, since those tours bring you to place that will be closed. What about the fort? Will that be open? Thanks.

No, Midsummer Day ( Juhannuspäivä ) is always on a Saturday so in 2012 it will be on June 23rd! June 24th will be an (almost) ordinary Sunday. Most stores are usually open on Sundays from noon onwards but I guess that on that particular case some, especially the smaller ones, will keep closed throughout the weekend. The fort itself is always open but some of the museums (like the submarine) might be closed .
