NOLA - When is the best time to book a room via Priceline?

I've never used Priceline before but thought that I would give it a shot for our two-day pre-cruise stay in NO on April 14th and 15th. Of course I'm trying to get a nice place for the lowest price possible. Is it better to wait until close to the date to book the room at a lower price (thinking they might let rooms go cheaper as the time gets closer) or to book early?

I think they get cheaper closer to the time. I tried 2* and got Extended Stay for $35 by the airport and for the return, am paying $44 for Sheraton Crossroads 3* by the airport.
