Beach or hotel?

If we want a nice beach with services for a family what's our best bet? We don't mine paying at a hotel if that's an option

Le Galion, Orient, Petite Plage on the French side and Little Bay on the Dutch side would be beaches to look into. If your children are young then Le Galion would be my choice. It is calm, clear and shallow and a really nice beach. For teenagers, Orient offers the most action and Petite Plage is within a 5 minute or so walk to the shops and restaurants in Grand Case plus there is a great water sports outfit there as well. Little Bay is close to the port and is an easy beach to combine with lunch and shopping in town plus it would be the least likely beach that you would find nudity at if that is of a concern to you.

What exactly is there for teenagers to do on Orient beach? We will have 8 teen cousins traveling with us. Aren't we lucky :/

There are boogie boards to rent, jet skis, parasailing, kayaks, some snorkeling and it is a great beach for people watching.

Dawn Beach Oyster Pond. Chair&umbrella rental for $6.00ea. There are two bars/restaurants to serve you: Beau Beaus and Mr Busbys. Happy hour at Mr Busbys starts at 11:00am and will be $1.00 beer, at Xmas 2011 it was Amstel Bright. Beau Beuas now has a girl serving $1.00 coronas on the beach all day. You can rent boogie boards, ocean kayak and snorkelling equipment from Mrs B's chair rental. Taxi service is frequent but ask your driver to pick you up at a predetermined time.
