Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

Well a year ago, none of us looked a the calendar, and now my MIL, a devote Catholic has and realized that Ash Wednesday is when we will be in Jamacia on the SUN. So a question or 2:

 

1. Has anyone been on a cruise on Mardis Gras and how do they celebrate it?

2. Any special meals or events for Ash Wednesday, I told her we would find a chruch in Jamiacia if she wanted.

 

Any help is always appreciated.

As is common these days with other celebrations of religious origin (like Mardi Gras), they will probably celebrate the fun part and forget about the reason for the season.

 

They maaaay have some Mardi Gras themed party, but I doubt that they will have Mass the following day on Ash Wednesday, not even the imposition of the ashes.

 

About food, your friend should have no problems finding meatless options throughout the ship, regardless of the season.

We had a great time onboard the Spirit out of NOLA for Fat Tuesday a couple of years ago. They had a deck party with a zydeco band. The mood of our fellow cruisers (many out of New Orleans) was fantastic and one fellow from our roll call even wore his giant margarita glass costume from a parade that he had been in.

I am on that cruise with you and looking forward to a great time...I am sure they will have a "service" with ashes on board..but not sure...maybe we can call?
