ACCagent Posted May 17, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2004 Wondering if the Sky/Aloha is back in San Francisco yet. If so, where is she docked? Is there a webcam of the area?
mountainhouse Posted May 17, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2004 Last I heard, she'll be in on the 23rd. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2004/04/18/TRGIR65D8C1.DTL You can always check the webcam. Star's web cam is currently an unflattering view of San Francisco Bay. Also, this article has links to the Port of SF, but info there is not well organized. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2004/05/16/TRG5Q6K1QM1.DTL However, this more recent article mentions Sky, but no change in dates. frankB Pride of Aloha 7/18/04 Maasdam 6/60 mountainhouse@mailblocks.com
mountainhouse Posted May 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2004 "Docked at the foot of 20th street". It's easily visable from SBC Park (SF Giants home). It was one of the few positive aspects of attending yesterday's game :-( I looked through a number of web cams. The East Bay cam on this page shows it as a white blob to the left of the Bay Bridge: http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/features/web_cam_main.html# I suspect one of these SBC Park (AKA Pacific Bell Park) webcams would show the ship, but I can't seem to access them: http://www.sfguide.com/cams.htm frankB Pride of Aloha 7/18/04 Maasdam 6/60 mountainhouse@mailblocks.com
Hobbsey Posted May 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 17, 2004 It was somewhat thrilling to come into San Francisco today (via Ferry from the North). There was Sky sitting just past the Bay Bridge. Further in the background is Star still in dry dock. The Sky is at pier 30 (site of the future cruise passenger terminal) while over at pier 35 is Celebrity's Mercury. I'll try and remember my digital tomorrow and get off some pics of the sisters in port. Hobbsey Posted May 18, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Well, today was not the day for me to bring the camera (I forgot). Going home yesterday I saw Sky sitting out in the Bay awaiting movement. This morning she is in dry dock next to Star. Stay tuned, I'll get the shot tomorrow if I can. 1968 Lurline (Matson) 1969 Mariposa (Matson) 1998 Seabreeze (Premier) 1998 Century (Celebrity) 1999 Seabreeze (Premier) 1999 Norwegian Crown (NCL) 1999 Voyager of the Seas (RCL) 2000 Westerdam (HAL) 2000 Carnival Victory (CCL) 2000 Sensation (CCL) 2001 Mercury (Celebrity) 2001 Norwegian Majesty (NCL) 2001 Vision of the Seas (RCL) 2002 Norwegian Wind (NCL) 2004 Maasdam (HAL)

jgiants21 Posted May 20, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Rat, Great pictures - Like the front view of the Star. I don't see that view from my drive home. The two ships look great together. Cruise_More_Often Posted May 23, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 23, 2004 Hobbsey and Rat: Just went down to see the Star and Sky. Looks like the Star is either finished or about to be. Her new hull artwork looks beautiful! I hadn't planned on going before I left the house or I would have taken my camera; four people there had their cameras. As my daughter and I were leaving, a gentleman driving in the opposite direction slowed down to look at the ships. He had the biggest grin on his face. ACCagent Posted May 24, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted May 24, 2004 I sure hope you guys will keep us updated with an occasional picture. It'll be fun to watch the Aloha put on her new "face". Would like to see the Star also. Thanks so much!
Hobbsey Posted May 24, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Drat, I had my hands full of stuff this morning so decided not bring the camera...and then coming over the Bay Bridge I saw STAR sitting in wet dock with her new paint job. Sky is not in dry dock so her painting is about to begin...soon she'll be Pride of Aloha. I'll bring the cam tomorrow and hope that STAR is still here. Anyone out there know when she leaves for Alaska? I think her first cruise is scheduled to leave next Sunday. 1968 Lurline (Matson) 1969 Mariposa (Matson) 1998 Seabreeze (Premier) 1998 Century (Celebrity) 1999 Seabreeze (Premier) 1999 Norwegian Crown (NCL) 1999 Voyager of the Seas (RCL) 2000 Westerdam (HAL) 2000 Carnival Victory (CCL) 2000 Sensation (CCL) 2001 Mercury (Celebrity) 2001 Norwegian Majesty (NCL) 2001 Vision of the Seas (RCL) 2002 Norwegian Wind (NCL) 2004 Maasdam (HAL)
Cruise_More_Often Posted May 24, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Hobbsey: I've looked everywhere to see whether the Star will be doing anything before her first sail next Sunday. Can't find a thing, so she must be sailing North without passengers. Do try to get some photos before she leaves.
Hobbsey Posted May 24, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 24, 2004 I assume (always dangerous) that she'll go out for a sea trial on that new POD. I'd love to catch her under the bridge. I too was checking for a repo cruise up to Alaska but find nothing. It's just a one day sail so maybe she'll stay put for most of the week. 1968 Lurline (Matson) 1969 Mariposa (Matson) 1998 Seabreeze (Premier) 1998 Century (Celebrity) 1999 Seabreeze (Premier) 1999 Norwegian Crown (NCL) 1999 Voyager of the Seas (RCL) 2000 Westerdam (HAL) 2000 Carnival Victory (CCL) 2000 Sensation (CCL) 2001 Mercury (Celebrity) 2001 Norwegian Majesty (NCL) 2001 Vision of the Seas (RCL) 2002 Norwegian Wind (NCL) 2004 Maasdam (HAL)

Isaac Posted May 24, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Saw her in wet dock on Saturday morning and she was facing South, but when I checked bridge cam yesterday, she was facing North. I guess they turned her around to work on the other side... Your Friendly Bartender
karfest Posted May 24, 2004 #20 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Perhaps I should take picture of the ships in the beautiful Port of Green Bay. This morning the sun was shining on some sort of barge and a tanker unloading a mountain of coal. In the background are paper mills chugging away. Breathtaking You are sooo lucky to look at pretty ships whenever you want! Keep the pictures coming- now I have to suffer until next April for my cruise fix.
