lindyg Posted April 17, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2005 We are on the Princess transatlantic cruise out of NYC on May 8th. Since we are spending a few days prior in NYC, where do we tell our taxi driver to take us to to board the ship that day? Thanks ahead for your help. coiran Posted April 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 17, 2005 Tell him what ship and he should know where to take you - give yourself plenty of time - last time we sailed out of NY it took us 2 hours from the airport to the ship. Ron
kathe Posted April 18, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 18, 2005 We are at Pier 90 Berth 4.The only ship aside from us is NCL at pier 88.You can not get lost as the route goes from one to the next. The NY LONGSHOREMAN will get the baggage. They are great but tip.One year we were coming back from Southampton after 9/11 and there was a threat against Lady Liberty. There were 4 large ships in and it was a MESS.We were not cleared to get off the ship until after 12 noon.Meanwhile 3000 new passengers were waiting to come on for Canada. Our Porter got us through this mess .Our Driver was so held up he could not get to us until after 3. So tip Kathe
CruisinChris Posted April 18, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 18, 2005 IN NYC the taxi drivers often don't know what you're talking about when you ask to go to the passenger pier or the cruise (unbelievable but true). Tell them it's over by the Intrepid (an aircraft carrier museum which is next door to the passenger terminal) and you'll get there. Be warned: drivers don't like going there and it's a big pain for them because it's not engineered for the number of passengers and traffic created by today's ships. Be prepared to be patient embarking and disembarking. It is very different than Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Seattle or any other port used to dealing with modern cruise ships. (I understand they're working on updating the port, but that's years off)
Logie Posted April 18, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 18, 2005 I agree with what Chris said. I would suggest hiring a limno service or private car. I am getting of the Golden that day with a large group and we have hired 2 vans to pick us up. Try this web site for limos and cars to and from the airport... https://carmellimo.com/WebApp/rates.jsp
