breti Posted February 21, 2012 #51 Share Posted February 21, 2012 I agree that unattended irons represent a potential fire hazard. Yet if fire hazard is the primary concern, maybe they should also consider banning cigarettes on board. I suspect that unattended cigarettes, or those carelessly flicked overboard that then fly back on board due to wind, represent a far greater hazard. I have heard of far more fires due to cigarettes than irons. This is not a know against smokers or smoking, but I think that consistency in messaging is important. Attached is from the Celebrity Website: FAQ Section Are steamers allowed onboard? Subject: Ship & Stateroom Details Steamers or irons are not allowed onboard. However, there is a full laundry and dry-cleaning service available onboard for a reasonable rate.

boogs Posted February 21, 2012 #57 Share Posted February 21, 2012 Heh. Reasonable is such a *relative* term... Celebrity's rates are lower than the dry cleaners in my area, so yes, to me they are reasonable. And, unlike my local cry cleaner, I don't have to go out of my way to drop them off and pick them up at his facility - the cabin steward does that for us, making it an even better bargain. Subject: Ship & Stateroom Details Steamers or irons are not allowed onboard. They should really make up their minds. This is taken straight from their site also at: http://www.celebritycruises.com/planAndBook/beforeYouGo/tabLanding.do?pagename=before_you_go_gateway&tab=before_you_go_getting_ready "For the safety of our guests and crew there are certain items that are not allowed onboard. If these are found they will be confiscated. Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, flammable liquids, explosives, and dangerous chemicals will not be returned. Firearms & Ammunition, including realistic replicas Sharp Objects, including knives and scissors* Illegal Drugs & Substances Candles & Incense Coffee Makers, Clothes Irons, & Hot Plates" And this is exactly what was listed on our cruise documents.
