What to do in St. Martin/Maarten

Recommended Posts

We`ll be in St. Martin next week and have no idea yet what we would like to do there. It's the first time on one of the Eastern Caribbean islands.

What would you suggest how we should spend the day?

Are there any tours or sails that you recommend? Or would it be better to rent a cab for the day? How expensive are the tours/taxis?

We are in our mid-thirties and have no kids (yet). We are interested in snorkelling, learning something about the area and seeing nice scenery. We are not interested in shopping at all or spending a lot of time in restaurants. We prefer quieter places if possible.

Any recommendations and information is highly appreciated!!!

Thanks a lot in advance!

We'll go to St. Thomas too, that`s why I`ve posted in that forum to find out if we should go to St. John or stay on St. Thomas.

To be able to visit "quieter" places on this island you may want to look into a private tour or private taxi for the day or rent a car if you feel comfortable doing that. Many tours stop at Orient and Maho beaches which are busy and with the planes coming and going at Maho it is anything but quiet. Both beaches are very enjoyable though.

The beach snorkeling has been just ok on St. Maarten for me. For great snorkeling you may want to look into a snorkel trip that visits Creole Rock. IMO, St. Thomas and St. John both have better beach snorkeling compared to St. Maarten.
