Hi:

I can answer some of your questions but not all of them. There were 2 formal nights, the second night and the last night at sea. On the formal nights I wore fancy sweaters and slacks (with sequins) so I would not be cold. Sleeveless and spaghetti strap dresses will not cut it. Alaska is cold especially if you are from the South. There is no designated dining room for formal nights. When we asked the hotel manager if this could be arranged he said it was not feasible since they would never know how many people would be dressing up. This is a very casual cruise line and people in formal dress were in the minority.

There is one time change in Ketchikan.

The show times vary from night to night - check your program.

The last dinner order in Windows is 9:30 but the buffet in Raffles is 24 hours. I was not fond of Raffles. The specialty restuarant - Le Bistro - was fabulous.

There were some specials in the spa, here again, check your program daily. I had the 80 minute massage done by Macaela and she was marvelous. ($160.00 with tip.) I also had my hair shampooed and blown dry. I won this on the first day during the spa tour. Go to it, there are four prizes that they give away including a facial, a massage, a hair treatment or a nail treatment. The salon/spa is on the 12th deck forward.

Be sure to pack a portable umbrella, a warm jacket or coat, gloves, earmuffs or hat and very comfortable hiking boots. Wear clothing in layers since the morning can be cold but if the sun comes out the afternoon may be a bit warmer. If you plan to take a fishing trip or a whale watching tour it is much colder on the boat then on shore.

We didn't take the tram trip in Juneau this trip but the last time I think it was about $5.00 each. If it isn't cloudy or foggy it is worth the money.

Have a great trip!

Becauseisaidso, here's some of the questions I could answer:

1. What time did you arrive at the ship on embarkation day??

We got there about 12:15, but probably did not get onboard until 1:00 even with the butler.

2. You said that the balcony in the forward suites did not have furniture out there. Are you able to get chairs if you do want to sit out there??

We brought out the two upholstered chairs or the dining room chairs when we wanted to sit outside, then brought them in when we were through. Don't leave them out continually, as you never know when it will start to mist or rain.

3. The pictures on line of some balconys look very shallow-are the forward suite balconys the same?? The forward balcony in the Phillipines suite seemed like it was the same depth as the regular balconies, but it was about twice as wide.

4. Do they provide you with a DVD library in the suites?

Yes, you have to check them out from the concierge. We brought many of our own, and ours were newer releases.

5. We have not found anyone on these boards who are going the same time as us-so it doesn't look like we have a cc meeting in our future.

Keep trying, sometimes people just don't notice it until close to sailing. (Unless it is like a week or two from now)

6. how many formal nights are there and which ones were they?

Mary answered this. It's your 2 at sea days.

7. Which dining hall was designated the formal dining room?

None.

8..Were you cold in your formal wear at night?? I am always freezing, and a pashmina doesn't seem to cut it to keep me warm.

I wore a black velvet, floor length, halter style gown. I did not use a pashmina or shawl, and I was not cold. I did not go outside any while dressed up though.

9. Is the time change as you get into ketchkan?? Is the time the same then until you get to prince rupert??

Yep. Yep.

10. What are the times of the shows at night?

I don't know, we don't go to the shows.

11. what time is dinner served until?

You can be seated until 9:30 pm, the waiters stop taking orders at 10:00 pm. So if you wanted another serving of lobster at 9:45 pm, you can still get it. (We did that)

12. Did you notice any specials or promotions run in the spa or any mention of reflexology??

They had a seminar on reflexology. I did no spa services or seminars, but Michaela was supposedly really good.

Since Mary and natalie answered most of the questions, I'll just chime in and answer this one since we attended most of the shows:

10. What are the times of the shows at night?

The show times were scattered. on the first night, it was around 8:30pm. On the other nights, there were two showings - at 7:30pm and 9:15 or 9:30pm. The sound was very uneven - oftentimes the music drowned out the singers or both were too loud and our ears were ringing after the performance. Hopefully, they will work out the problems soon.

The comedian was on a two week contract, and we watched the excellent magician disembark. Jane k. Powell had only a half audience on her first night (one performance, the sound was WAY TOO LOUD) but those who stayed were in for a treat. On the final night, she received a standing ovation.

natalunia,
Thanks for the great pics I got up to page 6. Will have to check back later.

On page 2 you said you "think" that village is Bella Bella, well it is - trust me

And the lighthouse - Dryad Point.
The small cruise-ship- actually a ferryliner (Queen of the North) which does a 15hr daylight trip (in the summer) between Prince Rupert and Port Hardy.

Just some useless trivia for you

On to the review...glad you had a blast on your trip and thanks for the info

The Norwegian Spirit, what a charming ship! I loved it!! The suites were beautiful and unique. There were lots of little niches where you could view the ocean from the different lounges, restaurants, etc. There were special touches and insightful designs all over the ship. The atrium is beautiful. I might have taken out the neon lines up the elevators, but who knows, maybe they do add to the impact. I can attest to the fact that the overall effect is overwhelmingly positive (for me, at least!). Some ships just "speak" to some people, and this one does to me. I would love to sail her.

One notable difference between this and a cruise ship designed for the US market is the use of horizontal wall panels, oriental style, in the passageways. It is very nice! The wood is also finished to a HIGH gloss throughout the ship. This has a nice effect, but has the unfortunate side effect of showing every smudge.

Bill, I took a "movie" of your suite on my digital camera, but it didn't turn out very well . I am going to try to get it to you anyway, along with the other pictures that I took.

runninwild,
I was able to get inside aft suite 9212, the Gemini suite. It is beautiful. It may be the same size/floor plan as the other two suites, but of the approximately 6 or so suites that I saw, I never saw two that were "alike" in decor or feel. I have a mini-movie for you. I will try to get it into computer form and e-mail it to you, or post a link here that you can access.

The balcony is approximately 21 feet by 4 feet and is covered the entire length.

Here is a link to an NCL slide show. It also shows the gemini suite

I am trying to work up some more review statements regarding this ship, but am also trying to get ready for my cruise on the STAR in a couple of weeks!

I envy you (in the nicest way ) if you are sailing on this ship!
