kelkel2 Posted February 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2012 Ok, So ever since booking, I have been checking the carnival fare viewer site religiously at least twice a day. Noticed that our category(8B) is now gone. I know that means it is sold out. We can't even see what it is selling for on the fare viewer site. So I'm assuming I probably wont see any OBC for price drops unless a category above mine becomes cheaper than what I paid correct?
RobertL88 Posted February 27, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 27, 2012 That's correct. If all the cabins in a certain category are sold out, you are not able to view the fare for that category anymore. (Unless someone cancels his booking and the stateroom comes available again.) If the price of a higher category drops below the price you booked for, you can upgrade to that category or try to get some OBC.
kelkel2 Posted February 27, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted February 27, 2012 Thanks! I've never been lucky enough to get OBC but I guess we probably won't get any on this cruise either! LOL But anyways I wanted to make sure I was following the "rules" correctly. Thanks for the help! The category sold out only a couple weeks after we booked so I'm very thankful we booked when we did! RobertL88 Posted February 27, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2012 You're welcome! And you can always keep hoping for a higher category to drop below the price you paid when you booked! We just got upgraded from a porthole stateroom to a interior stateroom with walkway view on the Valor (sailing 15 september 2012).
kelkel2 Posted February 27, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted February 27, 2012 I will hope but we will not count on it too much! I would much rather take the OBC rather than move. We hand picked that cabin for location and quiet so I'd rather not move unless we would get offered a cheap upgrade to a suite or something like that. But, that stuff doesn't really happen much anymore. I was really surprised to see the category sold out already. Cruising Jan 26, 2013!
RobertL88 Posted February 27, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 27, 2012 Looks like you still have a long way to go! What category are you booked on, if I may ask?
kelkel2 Posted February 27, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted February 27, 2012 We are booked in an 8B balcony on the empress forward :)
ferfoodle Posted February 27, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 27, 2012 ES is capacity controlled. There are actually still plenty of 8B's on your sailing - just no longer available under the ES rate. Now what you are looking for is any other rate that you qualify for to fall below what you paid. This can be past guest, military, residency, etc... If any rate falls below what you paid for your 8B (and same number of passengers) you qualify for the reduction. Try checking the fare viewer or do a mock booking under a different rate. http://www.carnival.com/BookingEngine/FareViewer/
kelkel2 Posted February 27, 2012 Author #9 Share Posted February 27, 2012 wouldn't I have to qualify for those rates though? Maybe not? But, I thought to price match to those rates you had to actually qualify for them in the first place. I didn't think you could match to the over 55 rate if you weren't over 5? You're right - As ferfoodle mentions "Now what you are looking for is any other rate that you qualify for to fall below what you paid." -- you do have to qualify for the rate. ken
