swimgirl1 Posted February 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 29, 2012 About how far is it to the Hilton from the pier? Apprx. taxi cost? How is the area surrounding the hotel?? Is there any shopping near the hotel within walking distance or pier that is good, before we head back to the ship?
aimodels Posted March 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2012 The Hilton is about 3 miles (4.5 km) from the cruise ship docks. If traffic isn't too bad, it should take about 15 minutes to get there. IIRC, a taxi is about $10-$15 one way. The beach at the Hilton is great. It's at the south end of Carlisle Bay. If you're a snorkeler, you will find shipwrecks and turtles at Carlisle. I don't recall that there was any shopping around the Hilton. A couple of blocks south of the cruise terminal is Pelican Village, where local artists sell their wares. Cheers, P:)
swimgirl1 Posted March 1, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted March 1, 2012 Thank you for the reply, I was worried that the beach was small and not that good. So for the Carlisle side do we heads towards the yellow lifegurad station or the other way- really would love to see the turtles, but not on a tour? Also how was the surrounding area? Thank you much! aimodels Posted March 1, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 1, 2012 If you're standing on the beach with the Hilton behind you, Carlisle Bay is to your right. There's a boardwalk to your left that runs down to Accra Beach. IIRC, the area around the Hilton is nice, lots of trees, not too much traffic - very safe for walking. We would take the bus which stops along Hwy.7 and always walk the 2-3 blocks to the Hilton. Cheers, P:)

thatbloominplace Posted March 4, 2012 #7 Share Posted March 4, 2012 another plus for trhe hilton is nearby local food. on the short road to the hilton you will find many options. at the corner, there is a group of kiosks including rotis, jamaican patties, and more. on the road itself is a small stand with the best fish cutters i have eaten anywhere. and a more formal setting is brown sugar restaurant where they serve a great bajan lunch buffet. enjoy the day. steve
