april47 Posted March 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2012 Dumb question but important for this older lady. :o I have seen British B&B's and hotels advertise "en suite", "en suite shower", and "en suite with full bath and shower". Does this mean that some rooms in B&Bs and older hotels don't have a toilet and sink in some of their rooms?
Rare John Bull Posted March 3, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2012 Dumb question but important for this older lady. :o I have seen British B&B's and hotels advertise "en suite", "en suite shower", and "en suite with full bath and shower". Does this mean that some rooms in B&Bs and older hotels don't have a toilet and sink in some of their rooms? Correct. Certainly as far as B&Bs are concerned. Often a hand-basin in the room, but shared bath/toilet unless stated otherwise. These of course will be at the cheaper end of the spectrum. Hotels - modern hotels, and all the budget chains such as Premier Inns, Etap, Ibis, Novotel, Travelodge, Jurys Inn, Best Western, etc will have en-suite toilet & shower or bath. It's assumed, even if it isn't mentioned. And they're all pretty acceptable, country-wide. But you'll still find a very few cheap independent city centre hotels, esp in London, which have shared facilities. Just "en suite" means toilet and bath or shower. If you have a hotel/B&B in mind, check it out on www.booking.com which tends to give very detailed information. If it's cheap, not listed on any major hotel booking sites, and doesn't mention en-suite, you can assume the worst. Much the same applies across europe JB :)
