Catalina new yrs day-everything closed?

Anyone know if Catalina Island stores are going to be open for pax that day? Or am I kidding myself. Can't get straight answer out of Carnival.

Why dock there if nothing is open on Jan. 1 2013?

It'd probably be easier to call a shop and find out. They tend to make a large portion of $$ from the cruise ships so I'd think most would be open.

2010, we sailed into Freeport on the day after Easter. That happens to be their Easter Holiday (Monday) We had excursions booked. We arrived only to have Carnival tell us they were cancelled. We rode the bus to the Marketplace and everything was closed there too. It would have been nice for Carnival to inform us when we booked.
