Suitcasefull Posted March 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2012 There are many beautiful carvings if you want something for the home. My folks brought us a great carving of sled and dogs from bone but that may be more casual than her tastes. If you want something personal, lovely jewelry made from old ivory or bone have great warmth and go with many things. You might google made in Alaska before you go and see what shows up in each port where you'll be. Would recommend looking for things made in Alaska (think they have to be marked with sticker) rather than something from the stores that just pack up and move to whatever area cruises are in that season (emeralds, etc) There are also imports from Russia in many cities such as Sitka. And there are always gold nuggets:)
powelweb Posted March 4, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2012 we haven't been to alaska yet- still planning for our trip this summer- but in doing our research, i recall seeing many people posting about Ulu knives made in Alaska. This might be a special memento you can ship home as a wedding gift that the newlywed couple will use often and think of you- just search the alaska forum for ulu and you should be able to find a thread or 2 with store recommendations in juneau and other major ports. good luck and enjoy your trip.
