cruiserguy11 Posted March 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2012 I like Kahlua. And I've usually use my allotment off a ship by buying Kahlua in Mexico. I found a recipe online and just made some ... it's GREEEEEAT. Here she be....I'm going to rename it the 3-3-3-3 recipe. 3 cups of brewed coffee 3 cups of sugar 3 teaspoons of Vanilla extract (I used imitation and it still tastes GREAT) 3 cups of Vodka Put the coffee into a pot and start to heat it. Add the sugar and stir it until it dissolves. Turn off heat and let the pot cool. (I put the pot into a sink full of cold water.) Add the Vanilla (whatever kind you use) Add the Vodka. I personally can't tell the difference but I didn't have any Kahlua onhand will which to compare it...just memory of how good it is. :)

cruiserguy11 Posted March 5, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted March 5, 2012 Correct me if I am wrong... but don't think that there is vodka in Kahlua:o ..but you just made some awesome Black Russians;) I have no idea if Vodka is in the real Kahlua ... but the version I posted sure tastes like Kahlua. My son made it with 151 Rum and he seems happy. Dunno why. :D
Rosefloater Posted March 5, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2012 Here is my recipe for Kahlua that has been in the family for 50 years: Boil 2 Cups of Water & 3 3/4 Cups sugar until clear. Add 2 Tbls Vanilla. Mix 6 Tbls Iinstant Coffee w/ 1/2 Cup Water and add to above. Pour into 1/2 gallon jug. Add fifth vodka. Store for a few months. Enjoy. I made this a few years ago and still have some left. It is great in hot chocolate. Vodka is used as a base for flavored liquors because it adds the alcohol without adding flavor.
