In fact, call and tell them there is a possibility that you will be using your card out of the country. They will ask you the dates you will be gone and what countries you are visiting. Citibank told me they have a 3% conversion fee. I have an amex blue. They said as long as the charges are stated in US dollars, there is no conversion fee.
