Keeping Track of OnBoard Spending

A couple of ways depending on the ship. I believe a couple of NCL's ships have your account on your TV. (not really sure).

If not or not available on your ship. Just go to the front desk as often as you wish and ask for your account to printed up for you.

You also get receipts every time your account is charged, except perhaps in the arcade. I just bring a small envelope and mark it receipts, throw in our safe and just put the receipts in there when I come back to the cabin.

How do you keep track of your spending while on the ship?

If you have a smartphone you can download (ahead) of time many apps that can assist with tracking your spending.

On the iPhone download shipmate...you can use the app even if you don't activate your phone for International. Just put your phone on airplane mode.

They did not have on board accounts accessible by stateroom TV on the Dawn in 2010. I went to the guest relations desk every other night to get a printout. Minor inconvenience.

This is what we do. Every couple of days when we happen to be walking by the front desk and its not busy, I have them print me out a balance sheet. I prefer a hard copy......just in case.

I have a small notebook and each night I write the day's expenditures in it. I keep it with our shipboard receipts.

Then, every 3 or 4 days I ask at the Front Desk for a printout of my Shipboard account and I check to make sure I agree with it.

I was able to do it on the Gem, but not on the Jewel

I could not do it on the Jade either.

To answer the OP, I usually just keep a general running tab in my head, this way I'm not overly surprised on the last day. I do hold onto my receipts, but I rarely tally them up.

Does anyone know if the Star has it available on the TV?

They didn't in February but they also didn't have the dining screens up then either. But someone mentioned they now have the dining screens so not sure if they have changed out the TV's for interactive ones or not since then.

We were on the Epic in January. Be careful using the TV as it does not distinguish between refundable and nonrefundable credits. I left $66 in nonrefundable credit unused because they did not apply to the service charge. I had been checking the tv and didn't question it once it started showing my account as owing. When we received the final statement, it showed the lost credit. If i had known, i would have purchased something from one of the shops.

I agree with Che. We have an envelope marked Receipts that we keep all on-board receipts in. That way we have a reminder of what we have charged and how our budget is doing.

What is a budget?

Seriously, I always intend to keep up with it, but never seem to. So there I am on the last night going over the charges and shaking my head wondering how my evil twin had so many spa treatments, casino tournament slips and specialty dinners.

I never learn.
