Day in Marseilles in June

We are in port 8-8 and don't want to take a large group tour. I know there are several good private guides but quite frankly don't want to spend 400-500 Euros either. For some reason our Roll Call is minimal. Has anyone ever hired a taxi to spend the day - We would like to see Avignon The Pope's Palace and Les Beaux but are fairly flexible. There are 4 of us and nobody wants to drive with a rental and also have vetoes trains, buses, etc. I am probably asking for something that doesn't exist.

Provence Connection Tours offers options for cruise ship passengers. Google them; I'm not sure I can give their website here. If you get 8 people, the price is about $80-85 each for 8 hours.
