Heidelberg clothing

We have taken two river cruises on Deilmann--one in the south of France, the other on the Danube River.

In our experience the informal nights on Deilmann cruises could be described as "country club casual"--the men were comfortable in slacks and polo shirts, women in slacks or skirts. Formal nights do not require a tux. The men wore suits or sport jackets and the women wore dressy evening outfits.

We were aboard the Heidelberg on the Rhine/Mosel cruise. Remember that most of the clientele are well-to-do Europeans (mostly German) who like to dress and eat more elegantly. While we wore jeans at times and never wore a tie, it was apparent that this was the exception even though it was tolerated. Also, the portiions of food were smaller, and there are no grand "midnight buffets". You will never feel bloated and will not gain weight!
