Luggage Transfers

We are doing the Galaxy out of Rome.

 

We booked the air inccluding transfers with Celebrity.

 

Does anyone know if we have to collect out luggage at Rome airport and take it to the coach and to check on ourselves? I remember that at one time once you checked in at your departure airport, the next time you saw your luggage was inside your stateroom.

I'm guessing that would only still be true for domestic departures, such as out of Florida. For Italy, I'd assume that you'd have to pick up your bags and take them through Italian customs just like other international travellers have to.

Last September we flew into Rome and there were Celebrity reps in the baggage claim area taking your bags and putting them on big carts to be trucked to the ship. The bags didn't even go on the bus with us. We went through immigration before we got to the baggage claim area. It was very convenient not having to take the bags out to the bus ourselves like in some of the ports.
