Just Booked Alaska on the Star; Balcony Question

My wife and I have a balcony room for the 5/22 sailing of the Star. Does it matter what side of the ship the balcony is on? We have a toddler and expect (hope) to view some of the scenary from our room. Our cabin number is 10036 and from the deck plans, seems to be on the east side of the ship if the front is pointed north. Does the ship circle so each side can see the sights?

We sailed out of Seattle last year and we were on the port or left side looking forward on the ship. We got to see quite a few whales, otters, and dolphins but some friends we meet onboard said they had not seen anything on the starboard or right side.

As for as scenery you can see it on either side what you don't see on the other side you will see coming back if you are returning to the same port.

Make sure you carry binoculars with you they come in very handy for veiwing wildlife, this is a trip of a life time if you like natural beauty.

By same port, do you mean returning to the same port we left from? Is the passage that boat takes that narrow?

We will also be on the Star on 5/22! Can't wait!

G'day, M82 and Kinderfitz.

Great to see some more 22 May Star travellers! Can't help with the balcony question as we are first-time Alaska cruisers, but we hope to see plenty going both North and South! We are also on Deck 10, on the starboard side. Hope you booked at the great price that's currently on offer for balcony cabins!

Anyway, there are about 20 of us posting on a roll call thread started by Katiel53, so please feel free to join us :) Hope you enjoy the cruise!

We were on the opposite side in 10706 but often saw scenery, but we could also view a lot from anywhere on the ship. Although it was cold we were on the balcony a lot because we were able to see whales almost every day! :D It was incredible, several evenings after dinner we would watch and could see fairly large pods of whales going by.

One suggestion we found on this board was to grab a couple of the blue blankets that are out by the pool (do it the first day or 2 - they don't stay there long) to use on your balcony. We could wrap up in those and remain fairly comfortable most of the time.

Have fun!

M82 yes if it is a round trip which I think it is from Seattle what you don't see going north you will see coming back.

And if you won't to get out of your cabin for a while and not miss anything the Spinnaker Lounge on deck 12 fwd has a great veiw you can see for miles.

The inside passage is probably 3 to 5 miles wide or wider, but with the mountains it looks a lot closer make sure you carry your binoculers.
