Rockley surf

Recommended Posts

Rockley (Accra) is on the south coast where it is influenced from both the Caribbean and the Atlantic oceans.

Generally, it is calm to moderate wave action. People enjoy kite surfing and boogie boarding there, but one can still find fair snorkeling at the south end of the beach (on a calm day).

If you're looking for calm(er) wave action (unless there is a north swell), head up to the Holetown area on the west (Caribbean) side of the island. Folkestone Park is quite popular with snorkelers as are the beaches south of Folkestone down to Carlisle.

Generally, the east coast is rough surf; south is moderate; west is calm.

Storms and changing ocean currents do modify the standards, however.

All in all, Accra (Rockley) is tough to beat for an all-around beach close to the harbour with plentiful amenities.
