Has anyone used independent tours in the ports? Good or bad experiences? Thanks

Yes, we were in Alaska in May and booked our tours indepently. I found that it was a much better experience as we in small groups versus 500 people from the ship. In Skagway we had our own guide and rode in a Jeep 4x4 into the Yukon. Contact me if you want to go this route.

In Skagway, is the White Mountain Pass train directly on the dock? In the pictures it looks like you just walk off the ship and onto the train. I don't need to give the ship and extra $10 per person (8 of us) if the train is already within walking distance. Thanks for the info.
