Status of Egypt Visit

The Seabourne Legend is supposed to be visiting Egypt right now and we are trying to find out if they were able to run their excursions to the Pyramids. Do you have any information about what has happened for the Cairo port of call?

 

We would greatly appreciate any information you can provide in this regard.

We are on the Legend and had a most excellent cruise.

 

 

No ports of call were cancelled and Egypt was superb. Quite safe with no problems.

 

 

We arrive in Istanbul tomorrow.

We did 4 days in Goreme ( Cappadocia ) It was simply amazing.

 

Two other friends from the ship- the Bridge lecturers also did the same, but not the same venue.

 

Some of the tours we did ourselves from the ship. The cruise was excellent.

We went to Istanbul some 2.5 years ago and found the experience amazing. When we first decided to go there, we were worried about security etc.

 

How wrong we were.

 

The locals are wonderful, they accepted that we may be different in views and did not force us to accept their view. The culture of the city with its mix of past and present religions was simply breathtaking.

 

We spent 3 days there and frankly, could have spent a week there. Food, is fresh and cheap. Markets are draped in history, something we embrace as we get older and you must go for a Turkish bath :p.

 

In regards to accommodation, I attach a review I did of Best Western. The staff were brilliant when my wife became ill with the flu. This hotel is easy walking distance to all the highlights of this great city.

 

Honestly, the most you will need to walk, is 10 minutes to get to the Blue Mosque, the Sofia, Market and Topkapi palace.

 

I loved eating on their roof top restaurant looking across this historical city and on the streets, where they simply place table along the street (photo attached)

 

Enjoy the experience mate, wish I could be there now.

Alfa: Thank you very much for all the information. I have filed it away. We are very much looking forward to it but we are always a year ahead in our planning so this is for NEXt spring. We pretty much stay with Intercontinental Hotels because we get upgraded all the time, but this hotel looks wonderful!

Currently on Quest anchored in Sharm al Sheikh. We have been to Safaga for one day and two day tours to Luxor and Valley of the Kings which went fine - no problems whatever. Then to Aqaba in Jordan yesterday for Petra which was spectacular (altho' not Egypt!). From here we go thru Suez Canal and onto Alexandria. No question at present of not going and Giza/Cairo tours scheduled to go ahead. Don't worry!

Istanbul is simply fabulous. Forget to visit the Topkapi Palace and do the Dolmabaci Palace instead, it is much more opulent and just gorgeous.

The four seasons in the old part of the city is very good and right in the middle of the old Sightseeing things like hagia sofia and the blue mosque.

Do have lunch above the entrance of the spice market, authentic and superb. The istanbul people tend to eat late, so 2 pm for lunch and 10 pm for dinner is usual.

Have a enjoable stay in this wonderful city.:)
