CCL Ship Triumph arrested and ordered held in Galveston Port

Holy cow.

Apparently a family member of a victim of the Costa disaster is suing Carnival in a Texas court. The judge ordered the CCL Triumph to be arrested once it ports in Galveston today (I believe it's today and not tomorrow) as collateral for damages. It says passengers will be allowed to disembark, but the ship is not to leave the port.

Bloomberg News story:

The CCL board is blowing up with people flipping out...many who are supposed to board the Triumph this weekend...

Someone has even gotten ahold of the public documents like the warrant and the order and posted photo copies of them.

WOW.

"A legal motion was filed in a Texas federal court that resulted in a judge issuing an order to hold the Carnival Triumph in port. The litigation in question relates to a lawsuit brought about by a passenger who sailed on the Costa Concordia in Italy this past January. The Costa Concordia is a vessel operated by Costa Cruises. Carnival Cruise Lines and Costa Cruises are both part of a global organization called Carnival Corporation & plc, however, the two cruise lines operate completely independently.

We want to assure you that we are working diligently through the appropriate legal channels to get this matter resolved as soon as possible. We are optimistic the issues regarding the Carnival Triumph will be resolved and the ship will depart on its scheduled voyage later today.

In the meantime, we are proceeding with our normal embarkation process."

Wow. I feel terrible for those who were due to board the ship this weekend for their much anticipated vacation. Could you imagine???

so what is the rest of the story? it makes no sense. they would hold the triumph and no other ships? if it is a texas thing why would they not hold the magic as well?

Evidently, the Triumph is the only ship that is owned by Costa/Utopia and Carnival. There was much discussion about it and more detail on the "Galveston Webcam Watch" thread under the RCCL site. It's crazy!
