danfiveoh Posted April 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2012 We were in Barbados several years ago and it was very easy to take a bus to some great beaches. I'm wondering if it is easy to simply hop a bus to see more of the island? Anyone done this and if so, suggested places to get off and look around? Yes, the local buses are still cheap and convenient to use as an alternative to taxis. In addition, the bus terminal is within walking distance from the cruise terminal - see pics/ photo album below. May want to check with the driver for the schedule/ frequency and yes, there are various destinations to explore this way (by bus)... Worst case scenario, you're pressed by time, you can always take a taxi back to the cruise terminal to catch your ship : )) Photos: Bridgetown: Bus ride to Harrison's Cave (Monday morning 12.26.2011) After Celebrity's SUMMIT docked in Bridgetown, Barbados on Monday morning (a Holiday - Boxing Day), strolling down the Waterfront heading to the local Bus Terminal called Princess Alice Terminal (15 minutes easy, relaxing walk; bus terminal located off the Princess Alice Highway that's seen straight ahead once you exit the Harbour Gate/ Cruise Terminal area). - Took the local bus to the Harrison's Cave (scenic, fast 40 minutes ride for $1.00 USD). Our bus driver was exceptionally good! The ride was fast, still safe on a traffic that can be difficult at times. He also took us right by the Cave's Entrance (instead of dropping us off by the regular stop on the main road, by the Roundaround), saving us the walk down a side road to reach the Welcome Center. We took the bus up the cost spent some time at Folkestone, then got on the bus and took it way up the coast past Speightstown and inland a little bit. We just rode the route. We met some locals and saw so much scenery. Of course the bus doesn't stop for photo ops etc. But it was fun! Just give yourselves a lot of time to get back. Bus traffic and busses run on thier own time. It was a really fun day.
