Coolcruise02 Posted April 26, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2005 There is not much info on the Ports of Call board on Freeport. What do you recommend? Is there anything to do just off the pier? What beach do you like? Thanks :)

TrentS Posted April 26, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2005 I'll agree with Bill... There's really not much of anything there, and nothing at the pier.

What beach do you like? Thanks :) I had wanted to take a cab over to Lucaya Beach, but another poster pointed out that the ship (VOS- from NJ) is in port from 6:30 am - 1:30pm - by the time you get off the ship there really wouldnt be any time. I guess stayin onboard is what I will be doing.
wwinfl91 Posted April 26, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2005 There is a small shopping area and a port side bar right where the ship will dock. Be sure to take some pictures of the old cruise ships that are docked off in the back of the harbor. Those are on their way to be broken up some day and your pictures will be all that is left of them. Check out the Bahamas board in the Port of Call area as there are several posts there about nice beaches that aren't far away (short taxi ride) from the port. Here is one of them. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=161747 Have a great next cruise. By the way this is not one of my favor ports. We have been there once and that was probably plenty for me.
dlb1357 Posted April 26, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2005 It's a shame that the ship spends so little time in Freeport. We went on vacation to Grand Bahama 5 years ago and it was a wonderful trip. There are some amazing beaches on the other side of the island.

The former EUGENIO COSTA (Big Red Boat II) is currently on it's way to the breakers. The former ROTTERDAM V (Rembrandt) is currently in Gibraltar having it's asbestos removed and will restored and moving to it's new home in Rotterdam for use as a floating hotel. All of the other former Premier ships that were stored in Freeport are long gone.
stillfrantic Posted April 27, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2005 I booked one of the ship's excursions for Freeport. It is a sail and snorkel. There is even a water slide off the boat for the kids, so the description implied. It sounded like a lot of fun.
Coolcruise02 Posted April 27, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted April 27, 2005 Thanks for all the info. I don't really want to stay on the ship. I like to check out the local area for myself. :)
PSCruiser Posted April 27, 2005 #10 Share Posted April 27, 2005 Take a taxi to the casino. Adjacent is one of the two shopping areas (can't remember the name) but OK if you are into shopping. However, just across the street is the Sheraton, which has a nice beach that is public access. If you are discreet, you can have a dip (illegally) in one of their pools. PSCruiser Posted April 27, 2005 #12 Share Posted April 27, 2005 My recollection is about a 15 min ride. There is a taxi stand at the port, just tell the driver that you want to go to the Sheraton, that will get you to the right place. Cost is $5 per person each way. They will show you where to get the taxi for return. You might have to wait a few minutes on return until they have a full van.
britchicknyc Posted April 27, 2005 #13 Share Posted April 27, 2005 That sounds like a good idea. I too will visit Bahama Island as part of a Voyager 9 night cruise. I was disappointed when they reduced it to such a short time. Any place I could snorkel?
britchicknyc Posted April 27, 2005 #14 Share Posted April 27, 2005 Just had a look at the Sheraton at Lucaya Beach website - It looks beautiful. No way I am staying on the ship when I could be on that beach!!! Gorgeous!
