ST Maarten airport????

We saw on tv where there is a bar you can go to in St Maarten and it is next to the airport and watch the planes fly in right over you. Has anyone done this? We want to do EC next year and our DS wants to go to the bar to go to the airport--he will be 16--wants the thrill of the planes. Anyone know the name of the bar?

MAHO BEACH....take a taxi from the port. What an experience. There are two fun bars right across the street from that beach.

Word of warning, women who sit at the bar topless drink for free. Your son may be watching more than airplanes!

But the airplanes are the best part!!! The one bar posts the arrivals of all the heavies - the AF Airbus is one of the best...second only to KLM's 747. It is one of the shortest runways that the 747 is able to land on and is such a rush to see. Enjoy it!!!

Traffic in St Martin can be really bad so please leave yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship. The big jets usually come in the early afternoon, but you should be able to see a few before heading back.

We usually book a tour with Bernard Tours so we don't have to worry about the time or getting back.

Go to You Tube and pull up Maho Beach.....plenty of videos of the jets.

Whatever you choose, enjoy......it's a lot of fun!!!

Great place to go - The Banana Daquiries are awesome there !

The bar at the edge of the beach is called Sunset Beach Bar.

They have the airport speakers wired in so you can hear the air traffic coming and a board next to the bar showing the plane arrival times etc.

It's a great experience! Do be careful though and hold onto your belongings. A guy with us got knocked into the water, along with his bag holding his iPhone and other goodies. The planes are awesome, but people can forget how powerful they are. Enjoy... St. Maarten is awesome. :)

We saw a lot of that. DH got his sunglasses blown off his face and DD got pushed down the hill by a woman who couldnt stay standing.

We went straight to Maho Beach and hung out at the Sunset Bar - which is right there at the runway. It was a GREAT way to spend the day - we had done a Bernards tour on a previous visit.

Here is a link on You Tube to a video I took of the 747 that we watched land.

Another vote for Bernards Tours. $40 pp gives you a stop at Orient Beach, Maho Beach, Marigot, a stop to hold sea urchins and another to feed masses of iguanas and all the rum punch, beer, pop, water you can drink. We had a blast.

Ditto. My DH's favorite part of the tour, besides the all you can drink beer and rum punch was watching the planes. I really enjoyed it.

Great experience! Get there before 10am and have the Eggs Benedict! They are great. Would never have expected it from a beach bar. That bar also has speakers that broadcast the air traffic control so you'll hear what planes are due. Raise your hands high and I dare you NOT to duck! ;)

I jealous! Have a great time!

Yes, it's true. The beach there is called Maho. It's small but nice, and the "Big Iron" comes right over the beach and low to the ground. The bar is call Sunset Bar and Grill, and is located right next to the beach. They play the Air to Ground transmissions over the PA system and have the arrival times listed for the major airlines.

As to the topless drinkers... Never saw any when we were there...

It is a blast, if you like airplanes, this is the place to be!!
