DragonLips Posted April 27, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2005 Anyone know why this change was made in the first place? Nassau at night?? What gives? I sail on Sunday and I was wondering why this was made. Anyone.
logcabin Posted April 27, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2005 From my understanding this is why the changed. From GSC to Nassau was a short trip of only a few hours. Basically, the Dawn sailed in slow circles all night. However, they now head straight to Nassau for 2 reasons, first to enjoy the night life and the second I am sure to save on fuel. I am sure that's the reason why they are leaving Nassau early the next day as well. So they won't have to do a full 25 knots the whole way and save on fuel. They have been sailing this schedule most of the spring thus far.. However, they recently made it "official". I received a email from my TA about the change a few weeks ago. We are sailing on June 12th. Actually, Nassau at night sounds pretty cool. Saturday is a full sea day as usual.
Robbo66 Posted April 27, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2005 Last week, the captain of the Dawn said that we had to depart at noon after an overnight stay in Nassau because the ship's waste water tanks were full. They can only discharge these after so many miles out to sea.

Leaving Nassau at 2 pm did not give you that much more time. By doing the overnight it gives passengers more options and appears as a longer stop. Yes it saves fuel but I don't believe that is the driving force. It also means passengers are buying drinks onshore, the shops are closed , and the casino is closed. I think the real reason is to increase the window to turn the ship around in NY. Leaving at 2 pm put the Dawn back in NY best case at 10 am. Many weeks it was late. You will have to give up the two hours somewhere most weeks. This itinerary in my view reduces the risk of passengers having to wait a couple of extra hours to board the ship and then arriving late to P. C. cutting time there short. I would think most passsengers would vote for an early departure from Nassau and a full day in Orlando. The overnight just makes that short stop more acceptable. Just wait for the first time they have to flip Nassau and GSC because of weather again.
Teacherloves2Cruise Posted April 27, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2005 Thanks for the update, anyone else who is going on this sailing, did you recieve an update from your TA as well? I have a feeling I won't recieve anything, my TA has been aweful. I emailed her a few questions and she wrote back a week later only answering a few. One she answered wrong (said I wasn't assigned a cabin when I called NCL and they said I was) some she didn't answer and she told me she hadn't heard about the Dawn wave! Yikes! Anyway, thanks for the update. :)
judyf Posted April 27, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2005 I'm on the 5/22 sailing and our itinerary is the overnight in Nassau too. IMO it's great! We only lose two hour in Nassau and gain the whole evening!
