President's Dinner ??? 1st time NCL

Hi all -
We're cruising NCL Star on 6/20, and on the roll call board I've seen some concern expressed that the "President's Dinner" is on the night that we're in Juneau. We were planning to have dinner off the ship that night, but I'm picking up from the posters that this is the "culinary highlight" of the cruise. Can I get some opinions? Is it really something not to be missed or we'll the salmon bake be a worthy alternative?

You can eat in a ships dinning room any night on any cruise. You may only get one shot at eating salmon in Alaska.

The menu is good that night but not worth giving up your time onshore.

The menu choices include the favorite foods of presidents. Eat in Alaska that night (or eat 2x [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] ). You can always go on another NCL cruise to eat president's dinner.

How about going to the Salmon Bake, and then stopping into the dining room for dessert?

I believe the Presidents Menu was created by an NCL chef who used to be the chef at the White House. It is made up of the favorite dishes of past presidents & first ladies and their dinner guests. The meal I ordered (Presiden Carter's favorite chicken, Jacqui K salad and Reagans "floating islands" dessert) was the absolute BEST of the trip. I was a little afraid of a gastro-political conflict with my divergent choices [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img], but it seems that good food knows no party boundaries [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif[/img]. Everybody at our table for 17 really liked their meals.

I don't know if it will be as fantastic on the Star, but it has high potential for "deliciousity".

lisad, I think it is a great suggestion to try to do both meals, or at least catch dessert. I recommend the floating islands.
