mominkaty Posted April 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2012 First time cruising on Carnival Magic and have a question about times at port. Is there a specific/recommended time that you have to disembark and then be back on the ship? For example, if itinerary says we are in Montego Bay from 9:00 am to 6 pm, can we get off as soon as ship docks? What is the latest we can safely return? Does the departure time mean that is the time the ship will be leaving, so we need to make sure we are on way before then? Thanks in advance - this site has been a great source of info. Is there a specific/recommended time that you have to disembark and then be back on the ship? Yes For example, if itinerary says we are in Montego Bay from 9:00 am to 6 pm, can we get off as soon as ship docks? After it clears customs you can debark What is the latest we can safely return? Carnival recommends that you return at least 30 mins prior to the ship leaving Does the departure time mean that is the time the ship will be leaving Yes, so we need to make sure we are on way before then? Unless you want to be featured on a You-Tube race to the ship video :p Thanks in advance - this site has been a great source of info. have fun! StingRaysfan Posted April 20, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2012 thats the time the ship will be leaving. They will usually give you a time to be back on board that is a half hour earlier.... so you would have to be back on board at 5:30 for the 6 departure. Be there on time because the last stragglers that are late get heckled....:D
bassmaster150 Posted April 20, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2012 And note that they will not hold the boat for you...i.e. if you miss the 6:00pm departure, take your camera and credit cards....take a great photo of the ship as it is leaving port, and use your credit card to purchase air fare to your next destination. Thanks in advance - this site has been a great source of info. 30 min before the ship's sailaway is what the ship requests.....Do not cut it that close - especially if you are on a privately scheduled excursion (meaning you didn't book it through Carnival). We always schedule the return from the trip to be back at the pier area 1 1/2 - 2 hours before sailaway. Then we can walk around, shop, have a drink..whatever...with the ship within our sights. And then walk to the ship to embark within the time requested by the ship. You can never really know about traffic, car/bus breadowns, etc. You should always incorporate that into your plans to get back to the ship. Because as Bassmasters150 stated, the ship will not wait for you. Kathy
beerman2 Posted April 21, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 21, 2012 Just off the Victory and were witness to Many, Many people who can't tell time. PIER RUNNING to get back on board. Will never understand how that many people can be so lacking in time management.
