EMc&DrS Posted May 19, 2012 Author #101 Share Posted May 19, 2012 The most frequent complaint I read about the Legend is concerning the food in the MDR. It's usually described as hit or miss. If that is the case, what are the menu items in the MDR that are a "hit?" What about room service? Any recommendations?
crusinpsychRN Posted May 19, 2012 #102 Share Posted May 19, 2012 (edited) I just have to remember to go to the spa and use the spa that's there. Looks so inviting! I'm going September 16th and can barely wait! I love the ease getting around the ship. On Glory I stayed lost for 5 days. And I never found the fish and chips. Staff didn't even know where it was. Room service--I got a shrimp salad on french bread that was good. Order 2 and put the salad onto one of the breads b/c there isn't really enough of it. I once got a BLT and it was sent on white bread, not toast! Be very specific when you order. The salads are good, the beef with cheese is good. Chips are sometimes stale. Room service is fun. Sit there and watch some TV. I tip $1 per plate ordered. Remember, the room service menu is now in the bunch of papers on the first day. I htought it was an ad and threw it out. crusinpsychRN Posted May 19, 2012 #104 Share Posted May 19, 2012 The most frequent complaint I read about the Legend is concerning the food in the MDR. It's usually described as hit or miss. If that is the case, what are the menu items in the MDR that are a "hit?" What about room service? Any recommendations? I had serve food tepid in the MDR. No one else cared but I sent mine back a few times. I'm going to talk to the maitre d' the next time and try to figure out if it's something that's changed or if it's where you're seated or the efficiency of the staff. The crab cakes were yummy! The prime rib is good. Remember you can order some things as an appetiser. If they offer sea bass that's great also. I did the Chef's Table and the sea bass was the most out of this world food ever! Unfortunately, I was seated next to a woman who taked for 3 1/2 hours about renting a houseboat in Paris. Even her husband didn't talk to her. I was bored to tears. If you do that, make sure you're seated with people you know. I had gone solo and the people I knew ended up at the other end of the table. crusinpsychRN Posted May 19, 2012 #105 Share Posted May 19, 2012 The first night I order a cheese plate at dinner and eat off it for a few days in my cabin. Great cheese selection. I don't care for the nut bread with it.
RedbirdFL Posted May 19, 2012 #106 Share Posted May 19, 2012 We ordered room service breakfast several days. My favorite thing were the muffins. Some days they were chocolate, some days they were lemon poppyseed, but they were always good. DD liked the danish. We ordered room service one day when we came back sort of late in the afternoon from an excursion (in Belize, I think). DH and I split a Reuben sandwich and DD had a grilled cheese. We ordered a plate of chips too. We all really liked the sandwiches. A few favorite things from the MDR dinner menu: (I'm not sure if these are in the right order or not; I looked at zydecocruiser's 7 day menus) Day 1 - chicken tenders appetizer (we could have eaten these every day! lots better than what's on Lido), tropical fruits appetizer, fillet of tilapia, creme brulee Day 2 - spaghetti carbonara (got it as an appetizer), strawberry bisque Day 3 - I think we ate at Lido buffet because the MDR menu didn't excite us Day 4 - fried shrimp appetizer, bitter and blanc Day 5 - lasagna bolognese Day 6 - creme of broccoli soup Day 7 - panko crusted shrimp LOL, after typing these, I noticed that most of these seem to be appetizers! The entrees weren't bad at all, but in general, they were just pieces of meat or fish, nothing really special. Or maybe by the time we finished bread and appetizers, we weren't starving any more, so the entrees didn't seem as appealing. :D We didn't notice any problems with tepid food like others have noted. However, most nights, we ate between 5:45 and 6:30, so maybe the food is still hot by then. The cheeseburgers on Lido are awesome! The fries are good if they're hot and fresh. We ate breakfast on Lido 2-3 days and enjoyed it too. I had a calzone one day from the pizza place and loved it, and DD had pizza slices lots of days. One trick we learned from Cruise Critic was to get a coffee cup, put ice cream in it, and put coffee on top of it - instant frappucino! Yum! I know they don't have the Lanai deck on Legend. Is there a a BBQ on Legend, or any other special lunch on sea days? (Thanks for the tips about room service. One of our favorite dinners on Dream was sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies from room service!)

CGinMTL Posted May 20, 2012 #109 Share Posted May 20, 2012 I just noticed that the Legend is scheduled for Dry-dok in 2013 ( but there is no exact date). If anyone is sailing her soon, can you ask on board. They may have an idea of when it may be ....... or when it is DEFINETLY not going to be. . I am booked Europe - May 2013. belkin Posted May 20, 2012 #110 Share Posted May 20, 2012 We (me, DH, 20yo DD) just got off the Legend this morning. We had an awesome week! The weather was terrific and the ports were wonderful! We did the Turtles excursion in Grand Cayman and the Zoo excursion in Belize. We had an obstructed balcony cabin - our first balcony. We loved being able to sit out there in the morning and have coffee and breakfast and watch the ship pull into ports. We had ATD (YTD?) and never had to wait. However, we do like to eat early. We were usually there right around 6pm. We thought most of the food was good. DD loves mac and cheese and she ordered it one night off of the kids' menu and thought it was DISGUSTING. (And this is a girl who will eat blue box mac and cheese.) My favorite dessert was the bitter and blanc, although I did have the WCMC several nights. How did you like the obstructed balcony? We have one booked for a back to back cruise on the Legend next October/November.

Off the Legend a week ago, hit or miss pretty much sums it up in the main dining room. Some things were good, some items were not.

Rare Banditswife Posted May 21, 2012 #114 Share Posted May 21, 2012 We were on the Legend in Dec 2011. There was a pool table at the edge of the casino, no one was playing however.

crusinpsychRN Posted May 21, 2012 #116 Share Posted May 21, 2012 Great response--thanks! We didn't eat one cheeseburger on our last cruise, so we're looking forward to trying one this year on Lido. Whilte I haven't done it I've been with ohters who ordered a cheeseburger in the MDR. It's gigantic compared to Lido deck. Tons of fixin's too. I saw one lady who got that every night, even elegant night!
crusinpsychRN Posted May 21, 2012 #117 Share Posted May 21, 2012 How did you like the obstructed balcony? We have one booked for a back to back cruise on the Legend next October/November. They're great if you don't get one most forward where the boats are bigger and block the balcony. You will see the top of a lifeboat with one end a little higher than the other the way they are built. If you are between lifeboats you can see into the water too. Even the french door insides if you have a cabin between boats you have a view of the port and the water.

RedbirdFL Posted May 22, 2012 #120 Share Posted May 22, 2012 How did you like the obstructed balcony? We have one booked for a back to back cruise on the Legend next October/November. We were quite happy with our obstructed balcony. We were in 5178, behind the 5th lifeboat on the port side - #10. We could see fine straight out and could even see a little bit straight down, between the 4th and 5th lifeboat. For the price, I would definitely book one again.
