baylovesduke Posted April 26, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Good Morning!!! Who all has been to Atlantis? We will be stopping in Nassau in July, and my boyfriend and I both really want to go to Atlantis. I know it's like 400+/night to stay there, so we both know we'll probably never get a chance to come back. We mostly just want to visit the waterpark and the pools. I have a few questions- 1) I know we can purchase the excursion through Carnival directly. Is it any cheaper to purchase it when we get to Atlantis? 2) Is the half-day enough time to visit the waterpark and the slides? Or should we go ahead and get the full day pass? 3) Where can we put our bags when we're in the water park? 4) Are there any must-see's at Atlantis besides the waterpark and the different pools? Any fabulous restaurants that my chef boyfriend will approve of? 5) How much is a water-taxi and where can we get one? Thanks in advance for the help. :D

parrothead74 Posted April 26, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2012 We purchased our excursion directly through Carnival because it included transportation to and from, plus a guided tour through "The Dig". That is their aquarium, pretty cool. We did not do the waterslides, but did drop some money in the casino. As far as your chef companion, Cafe Martinique is a Jean-George restaurant, Mesa Grill is Bobby Flay, and they have a Nobu. No lack of celebrity chef star power... I would bring a change of clothes though. Those aren't swim-suit cover up spots.
Dangjr213 Posted April 26, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 26, 2012 We were there on a Tuesday morning and was able to do each slide/water ride at least twice and still have time to check out the two aquariums. It was pretty empty early in the day so the lines were not long but have heard from others that the wait times can get very long. So knowing if one day is enough really depends on how packed the park is at the time. How many people are in your group? I think for a group of 3 or more it's actually cheaper to book at room at the comfort suites next door. You get full access to Atlantis when you stay there. A lot of people go to the hotel check in, grab the tickets to Atlantis, and never even go into the room.
daijayx2 Posted April 26, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 26, 2012 The Atlantis only accepts credit or debit cards for ANY purchase. No cash. Cabs are right outside the port. I LOVED the Atlantis in March. Beach was beautiful! Waterpark was amazing. Didn't have time in this visit to tour the digs or anything but LOVED the pools and slides. rkeate0804 Posted April 26, 2012 #9 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Have done Atlantis several times....use the vendor mentioned or comfort suites....once did the tour with carnival and It took sooooo long to get to the water park because of the people with you. It takes forever to load the bus and then they give you a stupid slow tour of the area before they let you go to the park....the lockers are great to store your stuff and conveniently located. Yes take the taxi....boat too slow and crowded. have fun it is a blast.....:D

I also checked out the comfort suites for the day we will be there and the cheapest room rate was $220!!?? Is that right?? I was under the impression that the comfort inn would be alot less....do they offer a day pass??

Bought directly at Atlantis, think it was the same price? 2) Is the half-day enough time to visit the waterpark and the slides? Or should we go ahead and get the full day pass? Half day will get all the slides done. 3) Where can we put our bags when we're in the water park? Lockers, but you need a CC. 4) Are there any must-see's at Atlantis besides the waterpark and the different pools? Any fabulous restaurants that my chef boyfriend will approve of? Food was bad where we ate. Do not eat outside! The flies are like a plague. Overall the place was very dirty, I will never go back. abisha Posted April 26, 2012 #13 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Atlantis is gorgeous...overpriced, but gorgeous. We did comfort suites for family of four..saved $100 overall. there's a ton of add-on fees and taxes for booking Comfort Suites. And we had to get the wrist bands at Atlantis (very hard to find where to go to get them as we were directed incorrectly so many times, but finally found the desk). If you are only two people, Comfort Suites may not necessarily be cheaper. Try the other vendor someone else mentioned. Be sure to walk all over..not just go to water slides. there's lots to see there..lovely pools/fountains/architecture/fish exhibits (and the Dig..the large tank where you see an enormous manta ray and other large fish..very interesting). We actually went to dolphin cove and sat in a patio area near the beach where they have the dolphin encounter and could watch the dolphins interact with their trainers..it was cool. Sitting there was free, but extra charge to actually be on the beach. I highly recommend it. Enjoy Atlantis..a must do at least once.
daijayx2 Posted April 26, 2012 #14 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Comfort suites also charges 40.00 pp for the third and fourth guest and and a 5.00 and a 13.95 fee for grats and energy costs pp. You can also just purchase the day pass/ wristband from the Atlantis resort urself available in the casino under the big blue thing as pictured I wasn't aware there was full and part day passes. Just knew of one pass and the cost at the resort is 130 pp for the day pass. how much is half day is how is this offered or enforced? I never had anyone look at my wristband. So idk how they could enforce part day passes unless of coarse you go after a certain time but we arrived around 10:15 and left at 4 something. Lockers was huge help there are 3 sizes available. For 3 different cost. I got a medium sized locker and it was 7.00 for the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LauraMargaret Posted April 26, 2012 #15 Share Posted April 26, 2012 We went to Atlantis last May when we were on the Sensation (in Nassau oernight so we had a lot of time). We didn't want to pay for an excursion as we had been snorkeling in the morning. We took a water taxi there and were able to walk the grounds/casino free of charge. There are security guards who manage access to certain parts of the resorts for only paying guests. One of them asked if he could help us and we told him we were looking for the Dig. He told us if we came and went from the location he let us through, that we could go to the Dig free of charge. It was really great! We had a great time looking around Atlantis. It is a beautiful property and the Dig is really neat.
happy tink Posted April 26, 2012 #16 Share Posted April 26, 2012 My husband, son and I spent some time touring tanks, grounds etc and my overall opinion was it was way over priced, water looked dirty and staff was somewhat rude. I have friends that go for a week every year, but it's not my style. I think a beer was $10.
gunther619 Posted April 26, 2012 #17 Share Posted April 26, 2012 I loved atlantis. We went with the carnival excursion. It included transportation there and back and lunch. Which is at least a $20-25 value there . It's very expensive, but I thought it was worth the money. As someone said, they only take plastic, no cash for anything. They have 2 different size lockers. The small one was good for my husband and I. We went for a full day and only did half the slides, we headed back a little early cause we were both well on our way to a bad sun burn. My favorite was the lazy river or "the current". Someone said it was dirty....I didn't think it was dirty at all. But hey, we're entitled to opinions. As far as pre-booking or booking the day of. I would check and see how many ships are in port on the day you go. Cause if it sells out, you are SOL.
spacepotatoes Posted April 26, 2012 #18 Share Posted April 26, 2012 We did it last March. We booked through Majestic Tours for $120 each, the Atlantis Aquaventure pass. At the time, Atlantis was charging the same price. I'm not sure if it's gone up now or not. The waterpark doesn't open until 9:30 or 10:00 so if you really want to explore the hotel and enjoy the water slides, the full day pass is the way to go. There's so much to see and if it's busy, there could be lines for the slides. I highly recommend the lazy river, I loved it! I don't remember if they had lockers or not to store things. If you get the full pass, you can tour The Dig while you're there which is the aquarium. It's pretty neat.
Sh1035 Posted April 26, 2012 #19 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Stayed there numerous times. The worst experience is the water taxi. Sounds like a fun idea but they wait until its full then go..it was very cramped and hot. Going back to Atlantis we just took a cab. Stay for the whole day can take 30 minutes for the not so lazy river and it's a blast. After four stays I have yet to see everything. I would save my dining experiences for dinner there. As someone mentioned is a ok deli there that makes huge sandwiches. Certainly, enough for, two. Also, they have meal deals,by the pool to survive on. Also, dig and the grounds are best at dark! It states on the Atlantis Aquaventure Excursion page, the following: “The Aquaventure program is only available to guests staying on island. This program is subject to availability and may be SOLD OUT on certain dates as deemed by Atlantis" Does that mean that this excursion is not really intended for Cruise guest? I am interested in taking advantage of this offer, but what to make sure I understand all the terms correctly, because it is a lot of money (for 4 of us). suezyq50 Posted April 27, 2012 #21 Share Posted April 27, 2012 We have been there aound 5 times. Actually our least expensive time was booking a room at Atlantis itself. Check out their price. It was great for showering afterward.
Hugh0906 Posted April 27, 2012 #22 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Our favorite places to eat are under the bridge to Atlantis. Mostly locals, cab drivers and such. You can get there by finding the #12 bus. You sit in the shade of the bridge, watch the 'mailboats' come and go. They carry passengers also. Order up some fish or conch, drink very cold beer. Your food stand will likely go out to the pier and get your conch fresh from the bay where it is hanging on a rope in the water. There are restaurants on one side, shops on the other. When you are full or done drinking, get on the #12 again, and get a tour of the island for a $1 each. richfret Posted April 27, 2012 #23 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Would you believe that in the good old days (7 years ago ago), you could take a taxi from the ship for about $4.00 (very short trip) and enter Atlantis for nothing. You could go throughout the building, Casino, shops and a small portion of the grounds (not the beach) for nothing. You could even see the first 4 or 5 aquarium exhibits for free and about $25.00 to see the whole aquarium exhibit. Then Atlantis got smart and the tourists not so smart and the price jumped to about $150 for the same things. Merv Griffin, where are you when we need you? (He was one of the original backers of Atlantis). Actually it is quite a place: waterfalls and ponds every where, beautiful murals on the walls and ceilings, very unusual glass lighting designed by some famous guy whose name I forget, marbel from all over the world in colors you don't normally see, animal and sea creature statues, etc, etc, etc. Been there twice in the good old days, so just before our last cruise to Nassau three weeks ago, I took out my cruise pictures and gave them a good viewing. Then I took out $300 (for 2 persons) and paid for several excersions at the other ports. "Those were the days!"
OldTurtle Posted April 27, 2012 #24 Share Posted April 27, 2012 I don't think it is special enough to go out of your way to get there. Fun rides and some nice decorations, but too pricey for what you get and long lines on best rides. Not much better than a good "water park" Food very good, WAY too long to wait and rushed service even in the good restaurants. Just my opinion and experience. Funny you should mention Atlantis, as my daughter and two grandsons just came home from four nights there yesterday. Kids 10-12 love it. Too crowded and expensive for my taste. jbanana1 Posted April 27, 2012 #25 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Go to the Bahamas section of the Ports of Call board and do a search for Atlantis Aquaventure. You'll get lots of info and you can read my review from last summer. We booked thru majestic tours and yes, they will sell to cruisers even though their website doesn't make it seem like they will. The summer is busy time for Atlantis and waiting to buy directly at Atlantis is risky since they could sell out of their day passes. I thought the Carnival half day Aquaventure excursion was for ships that only are in port a short time but I'm not sure about that. You will want the full day pass to get your money's worth. The food at the waterpark is actually reasonably priced. It's the drinks/bottled water that is expensive.
