Changing Cabins?

We are a family of 6 traveling on the Triumph. I originally booked two ocean view rooms next to each other, but the more I've thought about it, the more I think a balcony with an inside right across makes more sense. Unfortunately my agent told me I can't make the change because I can't downgrade one of the ocean view rooms to an inside. Is this true? Can Carnival do it if I call them directly?

If you are booked under the Early Saver rate, yes it's true. No downgrading allowed. The only time they've ever been willing to break this rule is if the change results in more money for Carnival. If that would be the case for you (upgrading one, downgrading the other), give them a call and see what they say. They're not supposed to do it, but I would at least try. If you are not Early Saver and it's before final payment, there shouldn't be any problem. Because you could cancel for a full refund of the deposit, and rebook with what you want, so they usually just make the switch.

FYI: on Triumph, OV cabins are 220 sq.ft. x 2 = 440 total

Balconies are 185 sq.ft. plus 35 sq.ft. balcony = 220

Regular insides are 150 sq.ft. (listed at 185, but actually 150) plus the 220 = 370 total

I've done 3 in a 150 sq.ft. inside, and it certainly wasn't bad. 4 in there would get cramped. I've done 4 in a true 185 sq.ft. room, and it isn't bad at all. 4 in a 220 sq.ft. room would be even better.

If you booked through a travel agent they need to contact Carnival, you will not be allowed to make changes to the reservation directly with Carnival. That being said, if you have a good TA they should be willing to bend over backwards to find a solution that will make you happy.
