OUTenABOUT Posted April 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2012 I am planning on taking a taxi from the Livorno train station back to the ship in stead of taking the bus to meet up with the shuttle back to the ship. Does anyone know if taxis are readily available from the train station and can they take you all the way back to the ship or do they have to drop you off in the square so you can catch the shuttle bus back to the ship. Also how much would be a reasonable price for the taxi fare.
poz222 Posted May 2, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 2, 2012 Taxi can take you from the station to where the ship is docked. The shuttle is just a courtesy for those not wanting to walk to the downtown area. So you know... The city bus (route #1) will take you to and from the station for 1 Euro... Runs the main route, to the plaza and to the port. It runs every 15 minutes. You can buy the ticket from any newspaper stand for 1 euro or right on the bus for 1.25 euro. euro cruiser Posted May 2, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 2, 2012 The taxi fare from the train station to the ship should be about 20 Euro, maybe 25. It is more difficult to get a taxi at the train station however, so it pays to be one of the first off the train and sprint toward the taxi line. lalawgirl Posted May 7, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2012 In summer 2010 we had a hard time finding a taxi in Livorno to/from the train station-- all the drivers seem to want to take you long distances. I echo the earlier poster's recommendation regarding the bus. Locals are very nice -- buy your bus tickets (1E or so ) in the little tobacco shop in the train station. Then go outside and look for the buses right in front. Ask the driver "to port" and he or she will say yes or no and point you in the right direction if needed. It's a short walk from the closest bus stop to the port itself. Don't forget to validate your ticket in the little yellow machine in the bus!
